As we refurbish the stadium and other projects we sure could use our version of T Boone Pickens…

Check their number of bowls and victories over the past 10 years or so. Suggest you also check Softball and finally their golf program is second to very few….simply look at the top finishers at the US Open. Finally….lots of money has gone to academic and research as well. On the medical side , I recently took a female family member for medical testing in downtown Dallas. As we pulled up….I noticed a name on the impressive facility….T Boone Pickens Medical Pavilion. I would say lots of women have lots of “ Jack sh*T to show for their medical treatment.

Check a bunch of other schools with less money and you’ll see similar results. Unless you think half a bil for some bowl wins and pro golfers is a worthwhile investment. In the context of this thread we’re taking about athletics success and softball and golf men’s very little. The medical facilities and scholarships and everything else are all very worthwhile but it’s a lot of scratch for very little athletics success where it matters (football).

Historic win % in Bowl appearances PSU = .615 OKST= .636 . PSU certainly has more appearances historically but OKST is not exactly the dog that you may think. One final note…..I forgot to mention Baseball….let’s compare records between the two…lol. I could go on with the comparisons but have a meeting to attend. Enjoy the rest of your day….

Not sure if there is a way to do this excercise but....

It's easy to focus on the Pickens and Pegulas (and Phil Knights) of the college sports world. A better measuring stick would be to look at the rest of the donor base and see how much they donate. So, take out, the top 5% of all donors for the larger universities and see how the other 95% do, relative to each other.

Forget about easy. There is no way to do what you suggest without having access to the books of all schools.

Here's something to digest. Of all Power 5 schools in aggregate, donations are the second larges source of revenue, behind, no, not ticket sales, but conference revenue distributions.

Yeah, I figured no way to look at it - unless you have an idea of how much is contributed over a period of time 10 years - and the pull out the donations from the big wigs, who generally have their donation amount publicized.

Oklahoma State has a respectable 52 NCAA titles. Penn State has 87. And we don’t have a T. Boone Pickens. Cheers!

It's not even that easy. For the last 3-4 years, donation amounts have been all over the map because of Covid (keep in mind that a significant, if not the largest, amount of what schools report as donations are amounts related to the acquisition of seats)..

As for "bigwig" donations it's not only the amount, it's the timing of recognition. Most of these are not paid in one lump some, but over time. Not only does commencement and duration vary, but payments are not always straight-line.
