I have nothing against a QB or any other player who isn't a starter, who wants to start, transferring. Spurrier used to advise it. He did dress for the bowl and would have played if called on. I don't think he's leaving for the dollars. Kid wants to play and we want better backup QBs.

How realistic is the chance of starting immediately at a team where you are are transferring into unless that team is completely devoid of qb talent?

That depends greatly on their style. He's a runner. But the chances are greater than if he stayed here.

I wish him the best of luck and I appreciate his contributions to our team. Whatever he does, I hope that he gets his degree and is laying a decent foundation for his "after football" years - which I suspect are right around the corner. Ashford is not an unknown commodity who has sat on the bench for his college career. He has started 11 games for two different SEC teams over three seasons. He demonstrated he 's a serviceable dual-threat QB who isn't going to the NFL - and there's nothing wrong with that. His skills as a QB have earned him 6 years of free higher education. Hopefully his multiple transfers will not/have not prevented him from maximizing those 6 years.

I hope he's a headline maker for the Deacons. Young man has put a lot of miles in trying to reach his dream. Hopefully, this is it. Wish him all the best & Go Deks!

It's a testament to Ashford's character that Beamer allowed him to dress and travel to the bowl. Beamer even consulted the captains to get their thoughts about it and the captains wanted him to go.

I actually wish he could have gotten in for a couple plays just to shake things up offensively.

Yeah, we know he'll run with it.

I don't think Spurrier ever advised coaches to not have a backup QB who can take over for the starter when needed.

I didn't say he advised coaches. He advised some players while he was our coach to transfer if they wanted to start somewhere because they wouldn't here. That's all I'm saying here. But that really is not my point in this thread. My point is I harbor no ill will toward Ashford for transferring.
