At least we aren't alone: disappointment abounds in opening week play

FSU surely tops us in the misery index. Both with the overall performance and with QB play.

Clemson fans are fairly well deflated after their drubbing by UGA and realizing Klubnik just isn't gonna be that guy. They at least have their easy ACC slate as a silver lining with playoff hopes still on the table because of that, but their hopes of being back to elite level are fairly well dashed.

Oregon was a nearly 50-point favorite over FCS Idaho but only led by 3 points midway through the 4th and scored a late TD to get the 10 point win, scoring 24 points total (or less than half of what the spread was).

Michigan carried Fresno state for much of the game and got a couple late scores to pull away, but narrowly missed covering the spread. Not what the fans were hoping for in the first game of their title defense.

Florida, of course, is in the pits after being demolished by Miami and seeing their starting QB throw for 91 yards.

Va Tech had expectations of being pretty good this year, but fan morale took a hit by losing to Vandy (who may just be pretty decent this year).

So, oh well, a number of teams found out in Week 1 (and Week 0) that they may not have the kind of season they were hoping for. We are not alone. For sure, some of these teams will rebound with strong Week 2 showings. Maybe we can be one of them?

Carolina should move to the ACC and get their 8 wins a year. If they don't turn around the offense against UK, it is going to be a very bad year.

That wouldn't happen. Move to the ACC and instead of recruiting like a back-of-the-pack SEC team, we'd be recruiting like a back-of-the-pack SEC team. Move to the ACC and we lose the "come compete for playing time in SEC" recruiting chip, which is basically the only recruiting chip we have had to offer for much our 3 decades in the conference.

No offense but how has that work out for us?

It hasn't, but it's all we got to sell. Jump to the ACC and we have nothing to sell. My only point is if we jump to the ACC our recruiting would take a big hit and we would not be an 8-win team. We'd be in exactly the position we are now.

Jumping to the ACC - the conference most likely to collapse at some point in the near future - would make zero sense. That would be such a Carolina thing to do. Leave the stability of the SEC for a conference that just added Cal, Stanford, and SMU to try and stay relevant.

Most fans who push the "jump to the ACC" rationale do so under the misconception that we'd take SEC-level talent with us. We would not. We would not be an SEC team competing in the ACC. We would then be recruiting as an ACC team. If a recruit was gonna go the ACC, why would they choose us over Clemson? We'd almost certainly be middle of the pack or back of the pack in recruiting just like we are in the SEC.

We were in the acc for years. With exactly 1 conference championship. And that was with like a 7 win season or something. Our best teams in history, outside 1984, have been in the SEC.

Yes, history shows we would not light up the ACC either.
