...for the uninitiated the www.bulldawgjunction.com crowd gets together each week on Wednesday at Bin 612 in the Cotton District. You don't have to be a premium subscriber to join the fun. Everyone is invited. Last night...

...there was a very good crowd, with a few optimists, a couple of pragmatists, a leg breaker, a pole vaulter, sprinter, a horny freshly divorced guy, a Veterinary Surgeon (who is a stone cold Fox), a radio journalists' brother, a golfer, a hospitality professional, and others with as yet unmentioned skills. They went by names like Brian, Russ, Chip, Austin, Mike, Ben, _______(doesn't want to be identified), Shawn, Jenn, Michael, Glen, and a couple I didn't get who just dropped in.

Here is the report:

1. A La Tech survey was taken. No one selected La Tech to win. There were plenty of opinions about what would happen.

2. We have a virtually unstoppable play on offense, which has 7 variations, either a pass, run, or option run.

3. We have two solid private commits, one not as private as he should be due to a "rose bowl" blowing his cover.

4. We have a small surprise for La Tech. He may be small, but he be mighty!

5. We took a survey of MVP's on offense and defense. Michael wrote down the results of both. He might share the results here. Paul Jones is asking for similar opinions on the www.bulldawgjunction.com free board. You might go there and put in your two cents.

6. We shared a lot of good jokes and fun. After a couple of beverages we thought about doing a buy/sell on the passing heifers, but good taste and dignity temporarily prevailed. The buy/sell is still on the agenda for a future "At the Bin." ;-)

7. The Veterinary Surgeon gave a sidewalk consult to a sweet, old red phase Golden Retriever who had an ear infection. See, you get all kinds of services At The Bin!

8. That is all I can remember from my end of the table.

Rose bowl is paid to be a reporter. If he knew of a commitment like Thames well before hand and didn't report it I would feel I wasn't getting my money's worth.

For anyone who cares, Michael Wardlaw and his staff had this information a month before any competitor, but it was clear that the recruit did not want to go public with it. He chose to not release it out of respect for the recruit's desires for privacy. Several times in the past few years we have almost lost private commits when reporters blew their cover. I think responsibility as a reporter also extends to maintaining a person's privacy. I really like Steve, I think he works really hard and gives very good, very dependable information. I just don't think he should have released this information until the recruit was ready.

I don't have a problem with what Steve did. If Thames decides to go somewhere else because a part-time reporter let the cat out of the bag on a private site, then that's crazy. Thames privately committed to Croom. Also, I think BDJ is doing a great job, but they rarely "scoop" out Robertson. Usually you'll see something posted on Gene's page and then you'll see it about 30 minutes later on BDJ almost word for word. That Sevendust guy over there sounds like he knows what is going on, but he just says the exact same things Robertson says and whatever is posted on the Rivals board.

The only thing that was major to me that BDJ scooped out Gene's page on was the Jarrod Parks transfer from Tulane. They also said last night that he would be elegible to play next year. The Swan has denied these accounts for over a month now and there was a thread started about Parks last night that was quickly locked. Robertson even commented in the thread. You can see Swindoll doesn't like getting beat and you can see why Robertson came out early with the info.</p>

Well as I recall it was Yancy who first reported a "commitment" from Thames. As I recall from reading Steve's work - he basically said some close to him say it's over but he wasn't ready to declare yet. Maybe that's blowing cover, maybe it's not. He's taken the same path with McCrary.

As always, things can change, but if I'm a private commit I don't necessarily get mad at the reporters, but those close to me that leaked out the fact that I had decided. Those are the people that have betrayed your privacy.

Am I the only one that feels a little uncomfortable for M. Wardlaw in the way you mention his wife in these bin posts you make on both boards?

...I think Paul Jones, Michael Wardlaw and Rob make good decisions about when to and when not to call recruits, their families, friends, and coaches. Yancy Porter and Neil McCready may be doing their own school a disfavor, because they have been pointed out for this. I hear reports that they pester recruits and their families, and twist words to make something positive out of what they say about Rebeldom. Some recruits and their families have made comments that sound very, very much like complaints about being pestered. The competition for one-up-manship for recruit information is really getting to a breaking point. You can have 4-5 bits of information, of which 3-4 are pretty worthless, but you get volume, which impresses some folks.

I read it and immediately sensed the need to go check the sex offender registry.
