At most professional work locations, if you open another person's computer without their permission, you are fired.

i'd be willing to bet one of our GA's or interns or student helper that was running the X account last night left their laptop unattended momentarily with the X account open, and some astute auburn kid saw them and quickly typed "wde" and hit post. no time for caps or emojis.

This is exactly what happened.

That's it? From reading the headline and this thread I thought it was going to be something hilarious, or creative, or memorable.

Who cares?
Not that the x account is the most important thing in the world, but somebody should still probably be fired for letting somebody unauthorized get access to it. Not a huge thing, but it's such an obvious thing it'd be nice to see our athletic department take care of it. Especially since it's not really taking care of the big things all that well.

Someone should be fired for this? Some low-level staffer should lose their probably-not-high-paying job and have to find a new one, and possibly relocate their family, uproot their kids and move somewhere else? For this?

Prison Jail GIF by WE tv

personally I thought it was funny. It’s really sad that our only fan that’s this creative is busy trying to run an antiquated magazine out of Nashville while we all live in a digital world!

Depends on how it happened, but probably? Password security is kind of a big deal. Sure, the twitter account isn't that important, but you think you could get somebody at the university to respond to a DM? You'd hope that nobody would be that stupid, but most of these data breaches and ransom demands depend on someone doing something stupid along the way. or, do you think any fans would respond to DMs from teh MSU x account? I've see people use a corporate card to buy gift cards based on an email when it made no sense in the context of their job. Not a huge deal but just as an example of how credulous people can be.

Some low-level staffer should lose their probably-not-high-paying job and have to find a new one, and possibly relocate their family, uproot their kids and move somewhere else? For this?

If somebody with a job that would require they relocate because of this is in charge of the twitter account, I'd lean more towards firing. They should know better and have some responsibility and accountability. If it's grad assistant, it's more of a whatever, but whoever is handing out authorizations to official accounts without training should probably get a slap down and a message to take it more seriously going forward.

WTF could be so irresponsible? Damn.
The number of businesses I could do serious damage to, if I was a black hat, just by hopping on unattended PCs in public spaces is countless. People will walk away while on calls, go to the restroom, you name it. Meanwhile, I can clearly see that they are logged in and often in one of their core applications doing work.

At least a disciplinary action for not logging out of computer. That is IT security 101. Sounds like msu athletics need to take it security training again.
