He was paid $30m in stock. He will have to pay taxes on the $30m. His wife got $-8m. She will have to pay taxes on the $18m. The stock is worthless

They will get to write off some as capital losses.

Either way it doesn’t appear they’ll lose anywhere near $48 million unless it’s through law suits

And somewhere in the $500+ million of their combined net worth they surely have some appreciated assets that can be sold now or in the future and use the worthless basis to lessen or zero out any tax. If he plays football again, it ain't gone be because of that.

Knowing nothing about legal precedence for spokespersons being legally responsible for a company misrepresenting/doing illegal stuff...

- if Brady 'lost' this much money, he too was a victim and clearly wasn't knowingly representing a scam.
- are spokespeople legally responsible for the actions of the companies they represent?
- is there a $ minimum required before someone is legally responsible, or is anyone that is a sponsor or spokesperson realistically on the hook for the company's illegal decisions regardless of how much they are paid for the sponsorship?

I’m sure it depends on if they knew what was going on or not.

Collusion is a term I’ve heard a lot lately.

Whatever happened to all our crypto bros around here?

It still amazes me, how a bunch of reddit incels figured out how to get rich around 2017 at the expense of middle class morons all over the world.

Buying that stuff was like buying a shovel full of dirt but if a famous football player goes nationally using his fame to get others to buy it, I think some good lawyer could convince a jury if they can get it in the right court that will get it past the merit. " Not sure that's the correct word" Just get it to a jury.

For sure, in the right circumstance, perhaps he is found liable.
That's just dangerous as 17 since it will push endorsements towards containing liability.
The PGA tour, NASCAR, nba, MLB, Yada Yada all exist on sponsorships- both for individuals and the leagues/associations.

It could lead the sponsored person or league being financially on the hook for any company that does shady stuff and also pays money to sponsor those individuals or leagues.

It's not like Tom Brady knew what the 17 he was endorsing any more than Steph knew what was in the Subway tuna.

Could get really interesting.
