I am still stunned the Browns gave up what they did for Watson. All those draft picks let alone still guarantee his contract. And on top of it he can still be disciplined by the NFL, which the public outcry if they don't will be huge ....

It also underlines how well Howie Roseman did to get a conditional 2nd (turned into a 1st) and a 3rd for Carson Wentz. Wentz's 2020 season was far worse than Baker's 2021 season. The Browns really effed this up by waiting until after they acquired Watson when the owner had decided to part ways with Baker.

Yep, the Browns dissed Mayfield by giving up the ranch for Watson and there seemed there was no way Mayfield wanted to put another foot in the Browns facilities. Who could blame him? Mayfield seemed to be the reason that the Brownies had some success on offense the last couple of years and as a #1 pick he already has made some money. Mayfield at 27 is coming into his prime and he knew that the Browns would have to trade him so he seemed to play it classy and just wait it out. Good for him.

The Niners aren’t releasing Jimmy G; they aren’t that stupid. If the only Browns need/want him, they will need to trade for him.

I can't see why this article calls Mayfield "divisive". Because he didn't take the Brownies to the Super Bowl? Would they be happier with Bernie Kosar?

Thanks, didn't see that his $18 million was guaranteed. But that is all the more reason they should have traded him before pulling the trigger on Watson. From what I saw he has 4 years in the NFL to date and some rookie contracts can go 5 years and might not be fully guaranteed. Looks like a hefty investment in Mayfield that they really had to want out of pretty bad to make this move..........

How did you come up with that from my post? They both suck. The Browns knew Baker was gone so they signed Brissett as an insurance plan in case Watson is suspended. These articles were from mid March.

Baker was never going to play for the Browns again. He said it himself in his farewell letter when they signed Watson.
