Is Bama probably better? Yes. Can you put a 2-loss team that didn’t make title game in over a 1-loss team that didn’t make the title game? I think you’re setting a dangerous precedent.

This is just one of those years where I don’t think anyone is really that great. UGA likely repeats. But there is a pretty big drop off from UGA to the teams behind them, though I do think Michigan is better this year and UGA isn’t quite as good. So they probably closed that gap, which was a wide one, a bit.

I think the team it really sucks for is Michigan. You win, you play another game risking injury, targeting penalties, while the team you just dominated gets in and has the time off. I wish SoCal would’ve just made it so Riley would’ve gotten another a$$ kicking in the playoff.

So maybe the answer is teams not making it to their own conference championship game do not qualify for the CFP, regardless of record. Which would have excluded Bama as well.
