Coach Cohen landed the best Easton contract in the country for equipment. The days of players buying their own uniforms and batting gloves appear to be over. The team is also getting a new practice infield at the end of the Palmiero Center. There are also long term plans to convert the Grisham Tunnel into a baseball only weight room.</p>

he talked about having to turn in his cap at the end of the season when he played. Then he stated that his kids at Kentucky received roughly 2500 bucks worth of uniform/equipment each season. That is one hell of a deal! I would think his Easton deal is as good or better. I am not positive but I would think that players at State the past few years had to pay for very little, I could be wrong though. The practice field is one hell of an upgrade as well! This will save a lot of wear and tear at Dudy Noble. He is going to do some great things here!

Cohen said we're going back to the classic baseball logo, interlocking MS. I hope that's true.

*Disclaimer*
I didn't hear the coach say that, so it's just hearsay. They may come out in the church league softball uni's again for all I know. But I do enjoy contributing unsubstantiated rumors whenever I get the chance.

Two seasons ago the majority of the baseball team bought their own baseball pants. With 4 pairs of pants at $70 per pair it gets expensive. Coach Hedges was tight as hell with the equipment and wouldn't give out batting gloves ect... Cohen got TPX to offer a deal equal to the deal that Texas gets and then turned around and told Easton to beat it and they did. If Polk would've just asked State could've had this years ago.

I don't get fired up about much, but, I'm more excited about the Cohen hire than anything since we hired Jackie.

I feel like State finally did something right. again.

It is nice to see a coach that has a little bit of vision and does things to benefit both the players and the fans. The Easton contract sounds awesome, and I love how he approached it. I love how he really wants to be first class, and instead of talking about how nice our players and fans are, he goes out and does something tangible that is first class.

Turning the tunnel into a weight room is a great idea as well because it is going to free up gym time not only for the baseball players, but also for the other athletes. Really, with the Palmeiro Center, we should have enough batting cages to go around, so this makes sense. Actually, the revalation that our players will be lifting weights period is a great idea.

As far as the interlocking MS logo, that is a tradition at MSU and taking that away would be like the Yankees doing away with the NY logo on their hats. I'm pretty sure that at Cohen's press conference it was insinuated that we would have new uniforms, and it sounds like the fans might get to pick.

That's even worse, unless Brian Clark just got the job. That means we had an easy connection, and Polk probably had a better connection to Clark than Cohen, and just didn't pursue it all.

What the hell did Polk do when he was here?

You have a guy that loves MSU so he probably had a laundry list of things he knew he wanted to fix if he ever got the chance. To see him run with this the way he has now that he has the chance is just amazing. So far I have loved his approach to everything. Cohen is out there basically saying, "MSU is the best baseball school in the country, now everyone treat us that way!" We have to temper expectations because it will take him some time to get things going, but you can't help but love the attitude and energy he is bringing to MSU. Byrne has worked magic so far, let's hope he can keep it up!

The rep/manager for Easton doing the talks directly, A. Woitke, is personal friend of mine....and huge State fan....you see, Cohen was one of the few remaining coaches in the country using Louisville Slugger....and that is what he wanted to use....I am assuming that Easton gave them the farm to convince him to change.....I dont know the terms of what was given in the contract, but I will find out when I see Woitke today....

Heard the uniform conversation first hand. Cohen said the "M over S" as he called it IS Mississippi State baseball. He said "State or Bulldogs on the front of a jersey can mean anything. I want the country to recognize the M over S and know it's Mississippi State baseball." He said he was a traditionlist and that we would have traditional white home uniforms and gray away, with a pinstripe option for each.

I was just thinking about how Cohen probably had a list tucked in his wallet of the things he would do once he got his shot back "home."

And I agree that it will take time to de-pussify this program completely.

2010.

I was hoping Cohen would bring back the traditional uniforms and the pinstripes. Cohen will bring a national championship to Starkville. There is no doubt about.

But a little interesting considering that Kentucky's uniforms the past couple of years weren't that much different from ours. I know wearing black uniforms was never a tradition at Kentucky before.

What WAS Kentucky's tradition before? No SEC Championship in 102 years? I'm pretty sure Cohen could have dressed them all up as Hannah Montana and nobody would have known the difference. He said the other night at the gathering that after they clinched Kentucky's first SEC championship in 102 years, they got home about 9pm and pulled into the parking lot and were greeted by a grand total of zero fans. Kentucky baseball tradition started about 4 years ago and evidently black uniforms is part of it.
