Is there a requirement on how many OOC games you have to play? If not, why play midweek games like Central Arkansas, Alcorn State, etc after the SEC schedule has started? Those type of games don’t help your strength of schedule, especially if you get beat.

Because they are practice. The point of those games is to allow your developmental players, especially pitchers, a chance to develop. That’s why midweek games are not a big deal.

No requirement. You can play up to 56 games.

There are several good reasons to schedule them, but obviously they are not critical as many schools end up canceling 1 or 2 at the end of the season for RPI or injury considerations.

I like them, we roll our best 9 out and they roll out their best 9 out. Sans weekend pitching for both ball clubs and see who can win. Now we don't need to take our ball and go home because we can't beat these teams.

The program has gotten so bad we have people trying to cancel half our OOC games bc we can’t win them consistently.
This. We chose not to play a non conference schedule this year to win games. That didnt work out the way we thought it would either. Now we are stuck with the 2nd worst RPI in the entire league, regardless of us playing one of the tougher SEC schedules to begin the season.

With the host sites pretty much following the RPI last season (16 of the 18 hosts were inside the top 16, the other 2 inside the top 20).... we will need an RPI of 20 or better to host. With our current RPI, we'll have to have a tremendous SEC season for that to happen.

But yes 56 games. You cant really squeeze in all your non conference games in the pre-conference schedule. You need mid weeks so that you stay fresh and dont go a week without playing a game.. MOST should schedule a tough pre-conference then the lesser teams during the SEC games. How we got away with scheduling this mess is anyones guess.

BA now has us as a 2 seed. I’m not sure how they get that with a 56 RPI.

Man they just tossing stuff out there as reading material right now. Not even worth looking at projections right now.

Auburn is 1-8, but theyve played @Vandy, Arkansas, and @TxAM. Pretty brutal. They could actually be solid and no one know it yet. Further more maybe LSU is awful and Florida is middle of the pack. Now our record doesnt look quite as good.

Don't they all schedule 50 games total that's including Conference games?

Yeah. Any projection that has us a #2 seed is ridiculous right now. I don't think there's much maybe to it. LSU isn't awful, but they're not good. And Florida is a lot closer to middle of the pack than their ranking indicates. With our relatively easy SEC schedule (no Kentucky and no Tennessee, but we do play Missouri), it's going to be hard to get the RPI much higher than it is now.

For sure got a good SEC draw. Getting Mizzou at home, is a free 2-3 wins basically.

Any "projections" pi ss me off, its just click bait. The worst are the preseason bowl projections for football, teams NEVER know which game they will go to or who their bowl opponents are until the Saturday after Thanksgiving at best yet these "writers" are throwing out BS click bait during the summer. I don't care enough to look back and track but I would guess its a joke when comparing preseason projections to what actually happens
