What should MSU do about Polk's request to take his name off the baseball stadium?

but we should also let it be known that we didn't want to do it but that we are honoring Polk's request. We should also include a writeup saying that on the Dudy Noble page on the website. MSU should do whatever it can to remain professional and respectful in the aftermath of this search after we did such a good job of that during the season and the actual coaching search. Byrne has done everything right so far - he interviewed Raffo, he has been respectful of Polk at every turn, he put on a serious coaching search. Polk is the one looking bad here, not Byrne and MSU.

Polk has pretty much ruined what credibility he had with the rest of the sane world. If we just leave it alone and he goes quietly away then so be it. If he continues to rant then Byrne should let it be known to all that we are renaming the stadium at his request and that we regret the problems brought on by the former legend.

change the name. Unfortunately, the things Polk said aren't exactly the kind of things that an apology can fix. It would sure help, but the man has publicly threatened to do everything he can to sabotage our baseball program and our athletic director. I think we've got to sever all ties with him.

we need to first tell him that if it is taken off, no matter what, it will not be put back on the stadium. he needs to understand that MSU baseball is about more than Ron Polk. if he wants to sabotage the program by making it a very difficult transition for Cohen and Byrne then he needs to know that it will not be taken lightly. it should be clear that we will cut all ties with him until he ceases this type of ********.

i don't know if it could be done but they should also tell him that he will not live to see his name in the MSU Hall of Fame. he will be inducted only upon his death. I would say that this would send the signal that we have upper hand. a bit morbid but a strong stance nonetheless.

period of time, it is determined that he has mental problems OR he issues a public apology to Greg Byrne, Mississippi State University and its alumni, and maybe even John Cohen, although he didn't really personally insult Cohen, then it should be left up there. If none of these apply, then take it off.

are of the kind none of us will ever forget, if he were to apologize, the university would likely issue a public statement of acceptance, keep his name on the stadium and move on. It would be best for everybody.

I never liked the idea of putting Polk's name on the stadium to begin with; however, I don't think it would serve Mississippi State well to take any action toward having Polk's name removed from the stadium based simply on Polk's comments in the press over the weekend. Someone posted the other day that the university could not remove his name from the stadium without approval the IHL Board of Trustees. If that is true and if Polk is adamant about having his name removed, let Polk take his request to the IHL. If the IHL approves and directs it, then the university would comply and dutifully remove it. That way, the university stays out of a **** slinging episode with a certifiable idiot.
