Following college baseball and the Gamecocks for 42 years. I don't recall anything like this in the past. We went from a legit top 5 team to the keystone cops overnight.

Mind boggling.
Exacerbating! Hard to explain except baseball is a funny game - one day you're great the next day you're not!

This team is done. No confidence. And it’s on both sides, offensively and defensively. We’re going into games feeling like we really don’t have much of a chance because we can’t get anything going. Sad part is, did Kingston do enough early to keep his job? I say no. Based on his record here and this complete meltdown, it’s time to move on.

It really is like a switch flipped.

Maybe they just expended themselves mentally for that tough stretch and couldn’t maintain it. I dunno.

Wanna know the worst part?? We took a NC caliber program and turned it over to a guy who had never been a HC, then followed that up with a guy with a .500 career. Clemson hired a guy that had taken his team to the CWS finals and was in the tournament damn near every other year in his career. Ray needs to make this right. What an embarrassment.

Looks like we are just going through the motions - no enthusiasm or emotion being displayed.

Give Landon Powell a shot - think he's proven himself at NG and he's a Gamecock. Good enough for me!
I don’t know that he’s be my first choice as it would be nice to find a guy who has been to Omaha and actually won at this level. But knowing Landon could be our 3rd or 4th option sure makes me comfortable with ditching Kingston to make a run at someone.

I wonder if these coaches just don’t want to work for Tanner, being that he’s the most successful coach in our program’s history? It just doesn’t add up that we can’t get the right guy. Kingston wasn’t even that good at USF.

Who is that coach and will he come here?

Again, the Holbrook hire was the right move at the time. If you want to complain about the Kingston hire, okay.

I disagree. We were at the top of the baseball world. It was an extremely risky move that didn’t need to happen. Sure, he was one of the top assistants in the country. That doesn’t mean he was the best option to run the top baseball program in the country.

Recall that Ray was heading out the door. A change was going to happen.

Did you protest the hire 11 years ago?

I didn't like, I thought we could do better given the position we were in. But I was giving Ray benefit of doubt bc of what he had accomplished and he would still be around the program. If he thought Chad was ready then who was I to question him of all people. Turns out, his hiring practices should, in fact, be questioned.

I agree. I think a great part of the coach's job is to motivate and put excitement in your players . You do that by being excited yourself when good things happen and talking up your palyers every inning.. when was the LAST time or ONLY time you seen Kingston change his expression or act like he was even in the game, stand there there an flip pages on his clip board while his pitcher gives up 4 runs in a inning with 2 outs most of time. He has at 25 ball players who most likely the best all round player in H S. so why do you play guys that are hitting 150- 200 every game and strikes out as much as he spits. has no imagination about game. lead off batter on instead of bunting to scoring waits for D P grounder. where is baseball in Kingston's game. Most of us could probably do better an I am 82.

Kingston is an "analytics baseball" guy not an "old school baseball" guy which I translate to being a "robot coach"!

Exactly. In retrospect, poor moves.

Same here. I'm a '87 grad and former HS coach that truly believes this one has lots to do with the coaching staff. I'm not an insider so I could easily be wrong, but...

Yeah, and we have added someone to coaching staff that many wanted in place of Kingston!

I'm not an insider so which staff member could've been successor? Just curious because something positive happened for most of the season.

A lot of people wanted Holbrook fired and hire our current asst coach Monte Lee before Clemson hired him.
