Where does he rank among the WRs in the portal? Speed guy?

General concensus is probably 35-45th WR in the portal. Definitely a deep threat with good height, but probably not a burner. #2 WR on a team that lost its starting QB midway through the season and cycled through 3 more.

Will have the most experience of anybody returning for '23. 118 career receptions, 1900+ yards. KLS has 70/900+.

Really? I guessed that he wasn’t top 10 or I’d be more familiar with him, but not even in the top 30 at the receiver position… hopefully he’s a diamond in the rough.

Not my ranking. Browsed 3 portal rankings, give you the generalization. They aren't all on the same page as far as top 10 either. Seems the early offers push the ranking. Which is fine, but doesn't take into account production, situation, years remaining, etc.

Looks big and physical. Popped off for 6 catches and 130 yards in his last game of the year vs UNC.

Ironic moment: first catch in the video, he was being guarded by our portal CB Storm Duck (who fell down just off the line).

Opens up those comeback routes and back shoulder throws. Physical after the catch. I think he is probably underrated coming from a team more known for defense than offense.

Carter played nine games in 2022 for North Carolina State, recording 25 receptions for 406 yards and two touchdowns. For his career, the 6-foot-3, 216-pound wideout has 118 career receptions for 1906 yards and 10 touchdowns.

No high school record of participating in track. Second thing I check out after watching video highlights. He sounds like a reliable receiver, whether he is a burner or not.

How good was the QB play at NC State this year or throughout his career? Their offense was terrible in their bowl game. I don't think I watched them play this year.

He’s an upperclassman and I like his size. He can give undersized cornerbacks something to worry about. I think this is is a good addition to the receiver corps.

Dude is much better than #30 in portal. Great pickup by Stubs. Carter is a prime-timer... in 4 yrs vs. ACC comp he has caught 117 passes for an average of 16 yds. per catch! These mid major receivers getting all of these high accolades are not warranted. Give me this kind of production every time.

NC State had an outstanding passing game in 2021, and a solid passing game in 2020.
In each of those years Carter was the "#3 WR", and was used primarily as the occasional downfield threat. One of the other guys did, I think, go on to the NFL (late round or FA type).

This year, their pass game was a bit of a cluster - injury to top QB, and rotated several QBs in for at least a bit.... overall team offense was "meh". Carter had about the same type of year - but somewhat depressed stats due to missing a couple games with injury.

Best comparable to his work to date would probably be K Lambert-Smith
