What about this sentence in the fifth paragraph of Chris Low's story about Texas and OU possibly coming onto the league schedule in 2024? Also, how does everyone feel about nine league games with a 3-6 format? I like the heck out of it myself.

I like the idea but it also depends on who our 3 permanent opponents are. Who are you thinking we get? Please, not Mizzou!

I don't have a clue. We have so few historical connections in the SEC. I would expect Georgia to be one of them, and Georgia will certainly get Florida and Auburn. Alabama will certainly get Auburn, Tennessee, and probably LSU.

This is good for the fans and good for TV schedules.

As I mentioned elsewhere, my first thought was of those few teams who lose that new conference game and shift fro 6-6 to 5-7, but I bet the bowl games change their criteria.

One loser is the little schools who rely on that paycheck for being a sacrificial lamb to the P5 schools.

But in the end, I think it's the right step, and all.conferences should do it.

Like you I really have no solid idea, with the exception of UGA. Maybe UF and UT ? Assuming the 3 permanents would be all from the East.

At least people are seeing it as a reality. I think it's going to be fun compared to now.

I'm generally in favor of anything that gets rid of games like Ga. State and Charlotte, but I think I'd prefer compelling OOC games against P5 opponents over an imbalanced SEC schedule (for years where you play 5 road SEC games vs 4 home games). I realize that's a difficult thing to police from a conference standpoint. I'm not a fan of SC State games either, but if playing a rotation of South Carolina FCS schools means those athletic programs can stay afloat, then I guess it's OK.

We have a compelling OOC game built into our schedule every year. UPC is not exotic, but it is compelling. I suspect there will still be those games in Charlotte vs. our more hated ACC opponents. On those years, we'll have room for only one breather.

This is why USC schedules road/neutral site games vs P5 schools not name Clemron and not SEC members only in odd-numbered years, which is when we are hosting the Taters.

Believe me, I'm not a glutton for punishment. If everybody else in the SEC gets "breathers," I want one too. But maybe "breathers" are part of the old paradigm. We are in the era of billion dollar TV deals, players making 7-figure NIL money, and 16-team super-conferences. I'm not sure it's reasonable to expect breather or "gimme" games to remain a part of that paradigm. The highest levels of college football are looking more and more like the pros and the pros don't get breathers. To whom much is given, much is expected.

I like it. The more conference games you have the more balanced other teams` schedules will be. We would have won the East 1-2 more times under SOS but our schedule was harder than Missouri`s or whoever. Remember, in 2013, I think, the SEC rearranged our schedule to play LSU instead of Miss, State, if I remember correctly. Likely prevented us from winning the East, which I think is what the SEC powers that be wanted. The more conference games played will help balance it out, assuming the 3 permanent opponents are as even as possible. At least we should not have Arkansas, Missouri or A&M as permanent opponents just due to the geography and the addition of Texas and Oklahoma.

I think everyone is in favor of a 9 game SEC schedule once Texas and OU add in. I believe that Texas and OU and A&M aren't in favor of the 3 permanent part. Undoubtedly the three permanent for Texas would be OU, Arkansas and A&M. That is pretty tough. I prefer two tough games and an easier one. If Texas could have either OU, Ark and Ole Miss, or OU, A&M and Ole Miss, it might be acceptable. Why "3" permanent? Why not "2"?

As for 24 instead of 25, let's hope. the old Big 12 is still being unreasonable. Texas has the money to buy its way out early, but OU just doesn't have the astronomical figures being demanded. Unless ESPN steps into help financially, it will be 2025. But as we get closer to 2024, the Big 12 may just want it over and take a more reasonable buy out.

How about, say, OU, A&M, and Missouri?

We (Texas) have had a lot more football success against Missouri than Arkansas. So that might be a compromise, even though Missouri and Arkansas are probably thought of as equivalent by most people. Can't you give us Vanderbilt or a Mississippi school? I know, that is being greedy. I think Arkansas wants back in the rich Texas recruit pipeline, so they will lobby to play both OU and Texas. I think several teams will find playing Texas and/or LSU desirable, not because they want to play the schools, but to get their name in front of recruits in those areas. I would personally rather lose recruits to Arkansas, Missouri or Ole Miss than to Ohio State, Southern Cal and Notre Dame like is happening now.

Wow Big 10 starts 2023 doesn’t it? Why should SEC have to wait 2 more years when those teams were added a year ago?
