Basically continuity and the belief that we could build off the few good defensive showings we had last season. He more or less describes it as a calculated risk. It wasn't a slam dunk to retain White, but he believed the potential benefits of continuity outweighed the potential benefits of personnel change.

Not sure I agree.

Well, me either. The one defensive statistic he cited in support of White was our takeaway numbers in his first 2 seasons and then the UGA, Clemson and UK games.

I don't think it was a smart move, but I sure hope it was the right one.

Yeah, that doesn't give me warm fuzzies or a great deal of optimism. I guess we'll all find out together next season if it was the right move or not....

Keeping White is way more defensible than keeping the OL coach and the S&C Coordinator. At least White has had success in his career producing good defenses. The other two..... LOL.

Yeeeeeah, I dunno. I mean, you had Santucci and Durkin sitting out there. He doesn't give any real concrete reason for retaining White based on job performance. Mostly just based on continuity and what he thinks White can do. Basically, White convinced him he can do the job.

I was an advocate for moving on from Teasley and was told that I was nuts.

Whoever told you that was projecting and did not closely watch our games.

And injuries have been an issue here ever since Beamer arrived and hired the current S&C Coordinator.

At the end of the say its Beamer's job that is on the line.

Hopefully this is not Beamer, early next year

In my opinion, regardless of the circumstances, if you coach up arguably one of the worst units in the entire nation, your job should be under scrutiny.

I might have fired him after the first game when UNC beat 2 double-teams...on the same play...to sack the QB.

Beamer definitely made the easier call rather than taking the visionary approach in hiring a DC who could have been a long-term staffing hire like Santucci. Ga Tech is a team to keep an eye on with the moves they have made.

How many on her know how thier chosen DC would have functioned with our other Defensive coaches. Those marriages are not always kosher and one thing we know is that our defensive coaches have been killing it on the recruiting trail. Sometimes you have to let things play out instead of the knee-jerk, we had a bad season or few games, fire everyone

The telling thing for me is that Beamer noticeably avoided endorsing White's overall body of work. He cited our turnover margin in the first 2 seasons (omitting this past season) and then he referenced 3 good defensive showings from last year (UGA, UK and Clemson) but those were offset by the 3 poor showings he mentioned (MSU, UF and Jax St).

Well, one thing about about it, it is Beamer who is sticking his neck out. If he has made a mistake, it will become undeniable soon enough.

Hope he is right his job could depend on it.

I have no doubts his decisions on Loggains, White, and, in my opinion, Teasley, will likely determine his ultimate fate here.

If things are not improved this season, does he get another chance at hiring new personnel? I dunno... Should he? I dunno...

Imho, he will get another chance. I see a struggle to get to 6-6, and I see a LOT of schedule talk at the end of the year.

I think he's given another hire at OC or DC next year unless the wheels really fall off.

He missed a stellar group of coordinator candidates this year due to all the coaching turnover - if he has a chance, next year's pool may not be so abundant.

I think Beamer has next season and one more to establish his mettle. But if he doesn't have the right people, he won't have time for the effects of the right people to save him when and if he gets them.
