Says the ideal candidate will have prior OC experience calling plays. That would seem to tentatively rule out the internal hire, with the exception of Kitchens, who has OC experience in the NFL.
Based on his timeline comments and what he said to Lonergan, it doesn't look like we'll a new OC for the bowl game, which makes me think he's considering guys who are still OC for schools that are going to bowl games.
Suffice it to say, Beamer is in a MUCH stronger position to hire an OC than he was 2 years ago about this time. At that time he had zero games experience as a head coach and was taking over a team in shambles. He's now two years in, has shown his worth has a head coach by leading the team to a bowl game in each of his first two seasons, has 2 top 10 wins under his belt, and has shown the ability to recruit. Satterfield was an emergency hire. Now he can take his time and go after someone he really wants.
