Hey, if Sexton can pull of a raise/extension for Beamer after this crappy season, he deserves it!

I do not have confidence in Beamer making quality hires. He "settles". I hope he fools me when he inevitably has to find replacements.

First of all, I don't believe Shane's going anywhere. Secondly, he got a bump last year from $2.75 million to $6.325 million with an automatic $250K bump every year. He is very well paid for where we are and what he's done.

With Beamer’s record so far this year- Tanner/and the BOT would be stupid give any type raise or contractual upgrades.

I’d tell his agent to crap in one hand and want in the other. Then tell me which feels up faster!

My wants far exceed my craps.

I like Beamer and I hope he stays. But if Mississippi State is willing to make him believe he is better off there than in Columbia, I would let him go. I'd call that bluff every day of the week and let the chips fall where they may.

I think most on here(not all) would be much better at negotiating these salaries. I don't think we would be so quick to be suckerd by a fast talking agent. We know how to tell people to kick rocks! But probably wouldn't put it that nicely.

Agreed. I like Beamer, too. But I wouldn't outbid MSU to keep him. How much would it take to get Chadwell? He makes $4 million annually at Liberty. Liberty may not have SEC money, but it has deeper pockets than most people realize.

I don't even see it as purely having to "outbid" them. That's one reason why I worded it "better off there than in Columbia." He's already said this is his "dream job," where, according to my research, he makes about $2.75m per year. How much more would Mississippi State have to pay somebody to leave their "dream job" to go live in Starkville and try to do the same thing there that he hasn't yet done here?

OP's title is why it makes sense. Agents make up these stories to get their clients more money and it works like a charm on ADs who aren't versed in the ways of the snake

Works in other fields like mine (IT). Get a job offer for higher pay elsewhere, then tell your boss, "hey these guys offered me a lot more to go work for them, but I'd prefer to stay here. Can we work on a pay increase?" yadda yadda "sure."

From 1993 to 2004, I worked on straight commission. I was supporting my wife and two young daughters. If I didn’t produce, I didn’t get paid. That’s pressure.

Making $6 Million a year with a buyout clause if you get fired ain’t pressure.

Agreed. Tie money to results beyond a reasonable base salary.

Pittman's buyout language is the first one I've seen that approximates that. The amount of his buyout was tied to his record at the time of his dismissal. It was still quite generous and it was a bar, but there was at least something there.

Yeah, it's hard to say there's pressure when you're in the top 99.9% of earners in the entire world and top 99% in America. Pressure is not "man, if I get canned, I'm getting a multimillion dollar buyout and would never have to work again in my life." Pressure, like my dad experienced at times with a wife and 4 kids, is "we need money to buy groceries."

Our sports-centric culture has definitely developed a misplaced sense of pressure. I wouldn't even say coaches have a hard job. But it's presented as a pressure cooker.

When this is your life after getting canned, you do not have a hard job or a job with pressure:

Much respect for that. I worked production my entire adult life. Wish everyone had that opportunity for at least a short time just to get a different perspective on earnings. Personally I loved it.

Nah, you gotta try to keep him. You can't have MSU picking off your HC. That's a TERRIBLE look. Now, you don't immediately rush to the table with a new contract, but you don't just tell him "good luck" either. We don't need to go through another search right now.

Yep. And it might have bought him another year. That UF W bumped his buyout up another $5M.

I cannot possibly see Beamer making what is, at best, a lateral move and most likely a downward move to a place that's even more difficult to win than here. If I'm the administration, I certainly wouldn't say "see ya" but I also would not be the least bit worried about him leaving.

Besides the fact, why would MSU even be interested?

I don't know about that. There's just too much momentum towards him being canned. It's being rumored that boosters are collecting money to cover the buyout and want to bring Gus Malzahn back. If they bring Pittman back, for next year, they could very well find themselves in a situation like Auburn with Harsin. The writing was on the wall but they brought him back and it resulted in a mid-season firing.

Once the well is this poisoned, it's almost impossible to undo it.
