Okay, so then what does 184 look like in 2024? Oh, I know what you’re going to do! What about 174? 165? 125?

Cael has a decent track record with upper weights (and lower weights), so I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt. For now. He’s on a short leash. Tom Ryan may be available soon.

Geez. I was hoping this would not happen. Think he has 3 years of eligibility left. Dean will be gone next season and the difference between them is razor thin to say the least.

I can’t blame him. I wouldn’t want to sit another year either. With a returning national champ coming back at the weight there isn’t any other option for him. He can’t drop to 184lbs and he can’t go up either.

Best of luck to him but I think this was inevitable.

This stinks. I was hoping Cael could find a way for another redshirt year and then have Beard for 3 more years after Dean.

How do you blame a young man who is so talented like Beard who does not want to sit behind a national champion? Careers go fast and to sit 2 years in a row would not be fun. We always wish our top transfers would be at a weight where we have less depth but it does not always work out that way.
I love SonnyAbeFan's sense of humor! I bet every athletic coach in USA would love to have Cael's record! With further transfers/portal who knows when 22 to 23 wrestling team roster will be finalized! A lot happens in 1 year much less 2.

Diceman's spreadsheet shows Cochran as a freshman and Colbert and Watters as potential incoming for 2023. Any insights?

Beard graduated from HS in 2018. Your plan would have him wrestling through the 2026 season.

Michael might want to get on with his life at some point.
Sounds like he’d be on the Iowa plan if he did that.

Then you would be out of the big ten but then again that may give him a higher seed.
He will get good coaching there, a fantastic education, and won't impact the team race in the Big Ten or likely the NCAA championships.

I hear Stanford has a wrestling team…
The problem with Stanford is that Beard is 1 year from graduating, and Stanford notoriously admits next to nobody for grad school.

So next year at this time, he'd likely be right back in the portal looking for another new home.

Even less likely he goes to Penn -- the Ivies don't allow grad students to compete athletically at all.

Colbert is committed to Army.

IDK who Watters is, and can't find him on Google.

In any case, the guy I'd want is Correa. And he won National Preps at 182 as a FR at Seminary, so he's really good and probably not a college 184. If that means Ball starts for a year, we could do a lot worse.

Where ever he goes, my guess is he gets a good chunk of change. What is the going rate for an AA, possible top 4 next year? Maybe finalist.

Wish him nothing but success. Serious question. Anyone think there’s a chance he comes back to Penn State after next year? Not moving very far, doesn’t feel like any bridges burned on either side. At first I thought it sounded crazy, but why not?

This thought has crossed my mind also. Stranger things have happened.
