It seems like quite a few fans think the best option for Penn State is to completely replace Beaver stadium with a brand new from the ground up facility. For those of you close to the situation, is this the only viable option to deal with the issues that stadium has? It seems very drastic and costly to undergo a complete replacement, especially if you are looking to make a capacity of approx 110,000. I did assume if we were building a new stadium it would be of similar capacity to current.

I'd be in favor of doing enough to ensure structural safety. Spending to build an entirely new structure makes no sense at all. Does anyone believe that schools will be able to fill 100K seat stadiums 20 years from now?

Agree replace the press boxes and downsize a bit if you need to. It’s nice to say 107,000 as The attendance but that happens only at a white out so improve the amenities and back it down to 95,000

Why in the heck would replacing Beaver Stadium be on the docket to be replaced?
Structurally the stadium is performing excellent. The interior facilities do need upgrading.
Restrooms and a more pleasant physical atmosphere on the ground floor. Currenty
I'm sure there are other improvements that can be made.

They do control the territory.

Your 110,00 assumption is wrong

Renovation most likely. Replacement unnecessary.

It apparently is to those who have knowledge of the stadium condition .New may be the best solution The current stadium has many flaws and needs constant upgrade every year New would also be more cost effective .Redo from the ground up

Well, you’re there. Do something! Paint it, decorate it, whatever. Something!

o_O
In the 70s, and probably before and after, the students called The Beav 'a giant Erector Set' (for those of us old enough to know what that was). ;)

Also in the 70s, the PSU humor mag, "Froth", called it the "Largest All-Gray Stadium in Centre County". :ROFLMAO:

Seems that structurally, The Beav has long been the Rodney Dangerfield of stadiums, even among its own fans! (for those of us old enough to know who that was).

I'm predicting that attendance will fall on it's own as people see the impact of programs openly buying players. See How 'direct dollars' have totally changed college football recruiting (yahoo.com)
Well interesting opinion , but we have no idea how things will change yet And predicting 50,000 fans will stop coming ? I doubt it Saturdays in the fall Pen State are an event The changing diametrics in the fundraising part remain to be seen But I will guarantee you that you will still see more than 50,000 fans at a game in Beaver stadium

I'm thinking this because unless your program is going to be a top ten buyer of talent (and I don't expect PSU to be in that group) you aren't going to be seeing the playoffs. And if you don't get into the playoffs, you never win a natty. It's the perennial hope that "this will be the year" that keeps fans coming back.

Remove that hope, and lots of people will find other interests. Time will tell, but that's what I see coming.

A lot of truth here, but for many fans, it's the entire weekend of family, friends, tailgating, and downtown bars and restaurants that will keep them coming back.

It’s been 28 years since PSU won a title and the crowds are bigger than ever.

Also true- the question is how many of each type of fan- time will tell.
