Beer in Beaver got me thinking: What is unacceptable behavior you witnessed at a game?

A poster in that thread mentioned they have not witnessed any violence in the stadium during a game. I have not either but it has come close. Here are some of my experiences that cooler heads prevailed and did not escalate.

-2005 Ohio State, guy next to me was drunk as hell and could barely stand, kept falling into\onto people all around him. Threw up, luckilyy on the ground and not on any body, his friend threw a news paper on the vomit, grabbed him and took him away and they weren't seen again. This was before the game even started.

-2007 Notre Dame - guy behind us was a Notre Dame fan and acted like an arse when they took the INT for a TD, guy behind him went nuts and it almost came to blows but the PSU spit on the ND fan and some got on me. I was pissed. The ND fan was ready to explode because he got spit on but I calmly talked to him telling him the spit got on me too and to remember where he was and that he was out numbered. By this time, we had scored and tied it up and went on to route ND. Lots of regulars sold their tix in our nosebleed section so there was a mix of people in our section.

-2009 night game, was walking underneath the stadium prior to game, gate A I think, some guy walks up to one of the pillars off to the side and starts taking a piss. Lucky there was a cop nearby that took care of it.

-2012 Wisconsin - some dudes snuck beer into the game and some season ticket holder fans wanted them out but they kept drinking and yelling expletives at the season ticket holders. Usher came up and tried to confiscate the beer and get them to leave. Gave the usher a hard time. State Troopers then came up and had to physically escort them out.

-2014 can't remember the opponent - same situation with people sneaking booze into the stadium but instead of doing it on the down low and not attract attention they were being complete arseholes and bothering everyone around them. Then tried to pick a fight with some kid in the freshman section which was the section next to our section. Then some guy shouted to the usher about them having beer(this was like 5 rows from the field), usher flew up and confiscated the booze. The drunk guy wouldn't leave until his wife grabbed him and pulled him down the steps. Usher told us that the husband took a swing at a State Trooper helping the usher escort him from the stadium

-I have had other minor incidents through out the years but they were more people just being dumbarses. I don't recall having any issues in the 70s, 80s, 90s, or thru the dark years until the 2005 incident.

No fights - just people passed out pissing their pants.

OSU 05’-student section, a kid three or four rows behind me pretty much projectile vomited in the fourth quarter. Other than that, no bad experiences.

Too many to list. The memorable ones are all night games. Mostly fall down drunks or people puking their brains out.

I never understand the lone visiting fan with beer muscles. They don't actually get in fights, but it certainly seems like they're trying.

I get irritated that I have to chase somebody out of my seats almost every game. Or the large group of people who crawl over you in a visibly full row on their way to seat 21 only to realize when they get there it's even numbers to the right, odd to the left.

It's was either 73 or 74 and don't remember the exact game, either. Game was just over and student section was slowly making it's way to the exits. Behind me is a student carrying an obviously empty pony keg on his shoulder. Believe it or not about 15 years ago I met that student. He is a friend of a cousin. We all went out to the bars on a Friday night, before a game. We were telling stories about back in the day. I brought up the keg story and my cousin's friend told me that was him carrying it. We graduated the same year..75. I asked him how he did it. He said a bunch of frat brothers helped him pull it up over the rail with a rope. Back then the student section was the top of the East side, close to the North endzone. Those were the days.

1992 Miami - Setting off a military-grade smoke bomb in the student section comes to mind. It was maybe 10 rows right in front of me.

2002 Nebraska - My late father and I were sitting, or trying to sit, in bench seats low down in the north end zone. We and others around us are entirely on top of each other and simply NOT fitting in the space — especially with Dad & I being matching 6’4” 300+ pounders. Finally I realize something is very wrong and I ask everyone in the row to show their tickets. Whaddaya know, one guy with a ticket for another section thought he could just “fit in” to our row to sit with his two buddies. He very quickly and sheepishly told them “See ya” and beat it out of there.

2013 Michigan - Another before-the-game puker. In this case, he did splash some on my jeans. Ugh, I was pissed.

And, oh yeah…

2005 Ohio State - Probably me, my (now ex) brother-in-law and his buddy. OMG were we trashed. But we had an absolute blast. Likely my single favorite night of Penn State life, ever.

Seen way worse versions of this. This is borderline responsible.

Could it have been just the pre game jitters?

This happened at pretty much every big game in the student section while I was there. We pretty much always had to stand sideways on the bleachers because the row was overcrowded.

On occasion an opposing fan would try to sit in the student section for unknown reasons... stupidity or being drunk I guess. They would usually get harassed to no end until security escorted them out for their own safety. Fortunately I never saw one of those situations escalate into violence.

In the 90s students would regularly throw full plastic cups of soda around after a big play or touchdown. Since I was usually seated in the first few rows, it became routine after a score to turn around and keep your eyes peeled for flying objects. We often saw unsuspecting students get nailed with a soda at high speed in the back of the head. We speculated this was because the stadium started banning marshmallows so the students resorted to throwing whatever they could get their hands on, and this was much worse.

I hated that so much, almost commented on it here. Lucky me, during my years there was constant throwing of drinks down on the people below. I never got nailed straight on, but then again I usually duck and covered whenever we scored. I've seen some people get nailed with full drinks in freezing temps. Embarrassing, awful behavior.

South upper deck restrooms (one of the ones with a column in front of the door). Some dude laying on the floor of the restroom, halfway into one of the shitters, sliding around in his own vomit. There's a line out the door for the urinals, the EMT's make their way in and she ask him his name, It's "Bob" or something like that. She asks bob what he's doing, he says he's just tired and taking a nap. I laugh, everybody laughs (except Bob). I pee I leave, Bob is still napping in his vomit and the urine drippings of a hundred men before him.

1985 - away game at the Carrier Dome versus Syracuse. The Blue Band was at that game and beer was allowed in the Dome at that time. The Orange fans were pouring beer down upon the band members from the upper decks and even after repeated complaints to ushers about getting it stopped, the beer cascades continued. The uniforms have to be dry cleaned, but that was on your own dime to get them cleaned and not paid by the University..

Back in the day students used to routinely hurl small white objects at each other with no regard to who they hit. Sometimes they would even put them into the freezer to harden them before heading to the game. It was chaos.

I was in that same section but closer to the field. I remember turning around and wondering what ahole would do something like that. Didn't they find him via the serial number on the smoke grenade?

Something like that… I never caught the exact details, but I remember hearing not long after that he had been busted and was going to be sentenced.

I can’t believe I omitted the rampant cup throwing in the student section in the early 90s that others have mentioned. That was by far the worst example of bad behavior, being on such a large scale and lasting multiple seasons.

I can't even remember why they started issuing drinks in plastic cups. It started out harmless enough - the students would stack empty cups to see how big of a stack they could make. When a score or something else big happed the stack would go flying in the air, they would get tossed around, and then the cycle would usually repeat. At some point things just got out of hand.

True enough, the cup stacking was just the students having fun. Even the empty cups flying around now and then wasn’t the worst thing in the world. It was when it became a non-stop barrage of them + many FULL cups of ice and soda (or worse, sometimes red fruit punch that would stain clothes) that it was ridiculous and out of hand. You couldn’t focus on enjoying the game.

That was my era on campus, and I honestly don’t remember the cups as much as I do the marshmallows. We found many clever ways (some of which won’t be explained in detail) to maximize how many mallows we could sneak into the stadium.

Yep… the marshmallows sort of gave way to the cups over time. I was OK with the marshmallow tossing; I may even have been guilty of smuggling a few in myself once or twice 😳

The line got crossed now and then when someone would set fire to a marshmallow with a lighter before throwing it. Not that it would still be flaming when it hit you, but it could yield an extra gooey melted mess in your hair or on your shirt.

As I think more about it, the cup business might have been more mid-90s than early 90s. For several years after I graduated (93) I did typically sit in the student section when I’d come up for a game. So maybe I’m recalling the experience more from that era. My memory isn’t sharp enough anymore for me to be certain.

It must have been early 90s as I graduated in 93 and cup throwing was definitely a thing. Surprised no one has mentioned the snowball throwing.

He sat in Section NA, Row 27. Fat douchebag who thought he could beat up everyone and intimidate everyone. Kept kneeing me and my coworker in the back after we complained a few times. Kept asking me what I was going to do. Didn't know who he was screwing with. He was escorted out and his wife cried.

If you read this, **** you buddy. You're lucky you were in public.
