During our coaching search this year I have constantly been reading that our facilities are in the upper tier for college baseball.

If you had to pick a list of the top 5 college baseball facilities what would they be? If 5 isn't enough go to ten.

I consider the LFL as part of our "facilities"...I also still consider the Palmeiro Center to be a baseball-first facility (which is was supposed to be) so I can't see how anyone can top ours. Baum is certainly the nicest single stadium. FSU's park is really nice and so is Auburn's but I just can't go on aesthetics alone. I don' t think either have luxury seating.

State
Ark
Nebraska
LSU (new AB)
ole miss (new Swayze)
A&M

I havent seen the renderings for South Carolina's new park

Im sure Im missing something.

i think i would also have to add in Oregon once all of their renovations are done (if i remembering correctly from a thread that posted their renovations). For clarification to HD6... even after the renovations I still would not let any of their fans stay at my house.

but as many other ppl have tried to emulate LFL, none have succeeded. None ever will. We are unique and we were the first. We made college baseball what it is today. There, that is my homerism for the day.</p>

But if you're just talking about atmosphere, no school comes close to what goes on during a good SEC weekend at Dudy Noble. It's not just about the number of people there. I was at the UM - Texas super regional a few years ago and there were a good many people there, but the atmosphere just isn't the same. I wasn't offered bbq one single time.

Are you unique? Hell yes.

Were you the first? I have no idea. Probably close to it.

But just because you are unique and the first doesn't automatically qualify you for the best facilities in the nation. There have been several ballparks (Nebraska, Ark, soon to be Ole Miss and LSU) that will have newer, bigger stadiums. If State wants to stay in the top five or ten ballparks in the country, you'll have to get rid of the bleachers and do some major renovations.

You have a great ballpark that is better than 99% of the other schools, but just saying you that have LFL doesn't win the arguent.

i agree that we need some upgrades to keep up with the stadiums around the country. but i also think we have an edge in facilities other than the stadium because of the house that steriods built.

DNF needs a facelift without question. It's still a fantastic stadium with probably the best atmosphere around, but we need to do some work to maintain its position rather than simply allowing it to rest on its laurels and reputation.

Edited because I looked it up.

Some of the amenities that will be added include 880 club seats between first and third base, as well as an increase in box seats from 400 to approximately 1,700. The overall number of chairback seats will rise from 2,951 to over 6,000, and all current chairbacks will be replaced.

here, it will be over 6,000. May be an old article, I don't know.

That will put the chairbacks at roughly equivalent as MSU. I think we have 6,700? So technically it still won't be as big as Dudy Noble, all things considered.

I'd say a brand new stadium with all chairbacks > stadium with 2,000 bleacher seats.

Either way, you'll always be able to put more people in the stadium because you can basically put as many people as you want in the outfield. We're closed in by hills and a damn tennis court.

i found the following on Florida's website after doing a google search. Can anyone find anything newer than 1998 rankings? I couldn't but my google search skillz may be rusty.

<table cellspacing="0" cellpadding="5" align="center" border="0"> <tbody> <tr bgcolor="#003399"> <td class="white" colspan="2"><font color="#FFFFFF">BEST COLLEGE BASEBALL STADIUMS

We have 6,700 chairbacks. Plus the bleachers. Plus the outfield. So you're new stadium won't be bigger than ours. Newer, yes. Nicer? That's a matter of opinion.

If by bigger you mean more sheer concrete mass, maybe. But I don't see how the 'stadium' could be bigger if you still don't have as many seats as we do.

Best I got was "approximately 7,200" seating capacity from mstateathletics.com. I take it by "approximately" that it means with bleachers, so I mad very well be wrong.

But I know I've heard the number 6,700 out there before, and I was under the impression that it was the chairbacks.

seating: approx. 7,200 (4,316 chairback seats; 180 skybox seats, approx. 2,700 bleacher seats)
I can't make the link work...But, this is off the facilities page.

It's weird how random schools like Witchita State get such a following in baseball.

Also, TCU has a strange stadium. It's pretty small, and instead of extending seats down the lines, they built an upper deck.

but lets' face it, we are focusing on mostly the wrong stuff as far as facilities. The actual facilities that matter to a player are things like indoor batting cages, indoor infields, and locker rooms. Coaches probably like luxury seating b/c of the money it brings in. But when there are 13,500 at DNF or 9500 at Oxford-Univ., do you think any recruit really cares whether we have metal bleachers? Do they really care if there is faux brick on the jumbotron? Do they care that some fans have to sit on a hill that slopes down at damn near 90 degrees? I really, really doubt it.

wichita doesn't have a football team so that has a major effect on it. not to mention it is a big city with a lot of industry and hence a crapload of money to throw around.

Which field is nicer- Wrigley Field because of it's atmosphere or Busch Stadium III because it's newer? I'm a diehard Cardinals fan, and I would say Wrigley Field. But some people may say that the new Busch Stadium is nicer and be able to back it up a little bit. By the way, from what I have heard, Pittsburgh of all places supposedly has the nicest ballpark.

Back to this discussion- having been to Dudy-Noble 1,000 times and Swayze Field once before they began baseball in 2003, and from accounts of others, I would say Dudy-Noble is still nicer. First of all, the field looks nicer, there's not a bad seat in the grandstands, we have the skyboxes, the LFL- which is good place to get FREE food. (You can't beat that), and the jumbotron that took out the fence a few years ago. And don't get me wrong- Swayze Field is nice- but not as good as Dudy-Noble. As far as the new renovations, we'll just have to wait and see, but I imagine just as soon as Ole Miss finishes theirs, or whatever they are going to do, then State will probably do some of their own.

There was no smartass flame throwing going on here. We were discussing the subject at hand, something you are incapable of doing. Did you not notice the part where I said I wasn't sure, but rather something I had heard for awhile and assuming ('something' being our stadium capacity)?

When Porkchop showed me I was wrong, that was all. You damn near add nothing to this board but sheer annoyance.

Florida? I think the most Florida has ever had at a game is 5500 people? This is a stupid list.

No LSU, no South Carolina, no Ole Miss?

Half astroturf and half grass- come on.

</p>in Memphis used to be like that. Reason being becuase they were an affiliate of the KC Royals, who had turf at the time. Now, why they didn't think it was important for their OF's to play on turf...I don't know.
