Since 1991, I was standing on the inside concourse with my old Dad, ready to get to the parking lot to get home as soon as possible. . 3 seconds left and we were inbounding the ball in the corner, down by two. We got it in to Cam Burns, he missed but was fouled. He was a less than 50% ft shooter but he made them both. We won it in OT. We had a much better team but nobody bitched about style points back then. We had a real basketball culture. We celebrated like hell.

We won the SEC that year, and they finished like with 9 wins and were last in the SEC. Nobody cared just that we won. Same the year before in 90. Beat them 104-102 in a 4OT classic. That was my senior year of high school, and I remember staying up on a Wednesday night having to listen to the game with Jack on the radio. Seems like yesterday. Good times.

I was a student when we beat LSU at the Hump to earn a share of the ‘91 SEC crown. Hank Flick as announcer - “A good good evening and welcome to the Humphrey Coliseum for an evening of Baaaasketbaaaaall… MISSISSIPPI STATE STYLE!”
Shaq was on the bench for most of that game. Stormed the court and celebrated the rest of the night.

If SixPack had existed back then, you’d have people like POTUS saying that we won, but it felt like three losses, and mad he couldn’t fire off hot take posts about us losing to a crappy Ole Miss team at home.

All three of those games have distinct memories.

Idiots from the athletic dept taking our sign before the 4 ot game.

The collective breath hold during smoke's fts.

...and being on the floor after the lsu game....and getting pizza delivered at some point middle of the night.

I was in the Hump for the whole thing. It was about 15-20% full when the game ended, but for those of us that stayed, it was a rush.

My favorite is probably this one from 2003:

I was there for that. Snuck in with about 20 other people after the game had started without a ticket. Shout out to the Ole Miss sorority girl, wherever you are, that walked past one of the doors of the Tad Pad and opened it for us to rush in.

You couldn’t get another person in the Tad Pad that night. Absolutely packed.

We won a 2 overtime game in 1979 against Ole Miss. John Stroud scored 42 which was a Humphrey Coliseum record for years & may still be. Most of the MSU frountcourt (Rickey Brown & Wiley Peck) fouled out trying to cover Stroud. Ole Miss coach & Bobby Knight disciple Bob Weltich got three technical fouls in the 2nd OT, the third for refusing to leave the court when he was tossed for 2 techs. It seemed like Greg Grimm shot free throws for 5 minutes because he was fouled prior to the techs being called.

There was a year early in Stans' career where we beat those shitbirds three times during the season - swept them in the regular season and then beat them in the SEC Tournament. I was invited to the end of season banquet and everyone that spoke mentioned beating them three times.

I recall some signs and props that were not appropriate then and would absolutely not be allowed now.

One of our associate athletic directors had one of those inappropriate signs targeting Shaq in his office. Saw it a few times while working for the athletic dept during college

I feel sorry for the generations that will never experience basketball games without the voice of Hank Flick. Great memories!

The empty chair game is up there as one of my favorites.
I was just about to post this. Stans got ejected like 5 minutes into the game by noted hothead Karl Hess, and we proceed to beat the crap out of OM by about 25. The tension inside the building when Stans got tossed was unbelievable. I’ve never felt anything like that before or since.

The postgame radio show was epic. I wish I could find an archive of it. Stansbury gets on there with Jack and tells about how he had to go find a place to watch the game so he goes to Polks office and Polk tells him “don’t worry son I get kicked out all the time”. “Jack I had to sit there and watch the game with all that cigar smoke, and you know this is a smoke free facility.” There’s this huge pause and you can hear people laughing in the background and Jack replies “Oh really?”

Was the the one where he stood on top of the scorers table?
I remember that on the radio. I was 13. I was mad…I could NOT believe we were about to lose to them. Then BAM!! I was a maniac. My dad went and I made him relive it with me. The next year was fun too. I think that’s when we came back with Timmy B blocking that little guards shot. You could hear it the smack….good times

Was this the game Jackie brought doughnuts sometime early that morning to those of us in line? It must have been, I didn't camp out that many times.
