over the last week many commentators re the BIG lack of success in the tournament, given the number of teams who got in. some of the reasons mentioned include = too big and slow/not athletic enough, old fashioned and not like NBA teams. tournament has different officiating than BIG sees during the season - not sure what that means. BIG younger than most of the field with COVID year. less NIL in the BIG. list goes on. bad luck and bad draws.

What do you think are the reasons?

Aren’t those five reasons enough? What was could there possibly be?

Bad coaching - other than Izzo?

Bad seeding…not many higher seeds which should equal easier games. The Big 12 was the biggest failure in my opinion….a lot of higher seeds and none in the final four.

You have to wonder if the B1G plays an outmoded style. I mean, Edey, Luke Garza. I’ve read that NBA scouts consider Dickinson to be a dinosaur, which is likely why he’s returning to college ball.

Maybe a couple of the teams play an outmoded style, but not many teams have seven footers. I think a lot of schools sink everything into basketball and Big 10 schools can’t do that. The other P5 conferences didn’t do all that well in the basketball tournament either.

Four passes and a cloud of set shots.

I think it likely has many factors that you’ve mentioned but it’s not just a 1 year thing.

The last Big Ten basketball title was Michigan St in 2000. The Big Ten has won 4 basketball national titles in 43 years (and 2 of them were Indiana with Bob Knight).

On the football side there are similar results. The Big Ten has won 3 football national titles in 54 years, (since 1969).
