Big news expected tonight on timing of Texas/OU to the SEC

The official UT-Austin Athletic Dept twitter account is telling everyone to watch for a big announcement tonight. All the Orangeblood insiders are convinced it will be about the timing of Texas and Oklahomna to the SEC. It could always be nothing, touting baseball accomplishments or something else. It is the first time in my memory that the Athletic Dept has done something like this, a build up to a future announcement.

Edit: If it was a big announcement, it got pulled. They hyped the heck of out something then didn't deliver. Fans are unhappy with that.

Keep us posted. I hope it is what you think it is. Should it be expedited, the overall pace of metamorphosis in college athletics will be accelerated.

Hope they change their mind and stay in the Big XII. 14 schools in the league is already too many.

maybe they’ve created their own conference and will play each other 11 times. Also, create a shared satellite campus in Dallas where they all hold hands while going to class.

Yeah, I liked the 12 team SEC better but a conference can't say no to Ok and Texas. So much for one writer who said that Texas would never join the SEC. Ok and Texas a much better cultural fit than that B10 wanna be. Should have invited WVa who desperately wanted a SEC invite.

Sure we can. No need for a bully in our house.

I've stated in the past that we are a better geographic fit for the ACC, but a better demographic fit for the SEC. And vice versa for Georgia Tech.

You don't know the history between OU and Texas evidently.
nothing personal, but I don’t really care. They obviously think they are so much better than others, so I am confident in my post.

They’ve only ruined two conferences with their arrogance, why not another.

The SEC is unassailable by them.

The hurdles that Texas had to overcome to be able to join the SEC were tremendous, I can see being skeptical that it would ever happen. It was negotiated in secret and sprung at exactly the right moment (right after the legislative session was over and in the summer while faculty was away from campus.). Somewhat neutering the two biggest opponents.

Are they disbanding the Longhorn Network?

If 14 is too many, ditch Missouri and someone else, maybe Mississippi State. Or Tennessee they haven't done much lately.
Mizzou and aTm. Of course, I wouldn't mind seeing Tulane & Ga Tech back in the SEC, and us back to the 8-member ACC we left. I have a somewhat vivid imagination.

My understanding of the deal is sort of "yes". It won't exist once Texas is playing in the SEC, but will stick around as long as the Big 12 keeps its death grip on us. However, the SEC network, with 14 teams, will eventually go to two channels, SEC1 and SEC2. The LHN has a lot of valuable facilities in Austin, i.e. studios, sophisticated cameras, etc and some, not all just some, of the LHN personnel have a handshake deal to get hired by the SEC Network. The SEC network may pick and choose and buy some of the remnants of the LHN's assets. Potentially having an Austin location when they expand. Isn't the SEC Network generally filmed out of Charlotte NC? That is a long way from LSU, Arkansas, the Mississippi schools, not to mention OU and Texas. So you can see the utility of both a west and east TV studio for the SEC Network.

That's good. And maybe/hopefully, the Big XII can start their own channel.

Might as well split into two separate 8-member conferences with a "working agreement" between the two.

The SEC Network and ESPNU are headquartered in and broadcast from a facility in the Ballantyne area south of Charlotte.
