Why is PSU on the road to start the B1G schedule for the seventh consecutive year?
Alvarez probably said, ok we'll make changes to your schedule. Do you want to start the B1G schedule on the road for a 7th straight year or do you want Iowa, Michigan, and tOSU back to back to back again? Your choice. Why is PSU on the road to start the B1G schedule for the seventh consecutive year?
Hey cool maybe we can start the B1G season at home once a decade....Oh ok maybe not.![]()

My guess would be TV and then maybe the PAC10 expansion? but the last one is just a WAG.Cool. Now who changed it and why?

PSU has played Illinois at home two years in a row and was slated to make it three years in a row in 2022.Dropped Illinois for Northwestern. Illinois was supposed to be our West division opponent for the next 6 years starting in 2022. Either that's now Northwestern, or the Big 10 has abandoned that 6 year rotation approach.
I really don't care whether Penn State opens at home or on the road (that all evens out anyway - to either 4 at home, 5 on the road / 5 at home, 4 on the road every other year). What I do think is a competitive disadvantage, and seems to happen a lot, is getting Rutgers during the last two weeks every year (at least it seems that way). It would be better to get that effective "off week" somewhere in the middle of the meat-grinder part of the schedule. And it is just no fun having a game against Rutgers at the end of the year, in lousy weather, while other programs are hitting the high notes to finish off the season. Why is PSU on the road to start the B1G schedule for the seventh consecutive year?
But that can still be revisedPSU doesn't start the Big 10 season at home until 2025.
It'll be revised per the "allegiance" to Notre Dame away with no play back game the following year. But that can still be revised
True. It is amazing how often we play Michigan and Ohio St back to back or squeezed in with Iowa/ Michigan St etc. It’s a real disadvantage as they usually play Penn St early (October) and then have a lot of time before they play each other to close the year.Future schedules have PSU playing OSU and Michigan either back to back or very close to each other. As much as we ***** about starting on the road with conference play, playing these two programs so close has also got to be looked at.
It would be interesting to hear why it changed suddenly.Cool. Now who changed it and why?
You’re pointing out something similar I wrote in the Lion’s Den. There is a habitual thing in our recent scheduling and future schedules with having to play any two of OSU, UM, and MSU back-to-back. Sometimes it’s even worse than that. In 2023 we have a stretch of MSU-OSU-Iowa-UM. In 2025 we end the regular season with OSU-UM-MSU.Future schedules have PSU playing OSU and Michigan either back to back or very close to each other. As much as we ***** about starting on the road with conference play, playing these two programs so close has also got to be looked at.
Agreed - that is such BS - another in the 100 reasons to hate the Big10.Why is PSU on the road to start the B1G schedule for the seventh consecutive year?
Does not appear so at the moment. In 2023 we play them the third week of October and then in 2024 and 2025 we play them in November. It will be interesting how the Whiteout will be handled in November. This is the third year in a row we are playing Ohio State on the 4th weekend in October. I wonder if that is going to be a permanent placement ala Bama vs Tennessee third Saturday in October.
You're assuming those schedules will remain the same, which I doubt with the "alliance" in effect moving forward in the near future.Does not appear so. Two things: I edited my statement to “at the moment” before I read your response; and even if the schedules are changed come 2024 there is no indication that the league has intentions of permanently slating our game with OSU on the final week of October (which is what I was responding to) given that the current schedules do not reflect that. You're assuming those schedules will remain the same, which I doubt with the "alliance" in effect moving forward in the near future.
Maybe it hasn’t been noticed, but it was reported in this article back in October that changes may be coming:It would be interesting to hear why it changed suddenly.

Don't get your hopes up. You know how it works.Any change to anything in the big ten has to benefit PSU right? Because the cards have been stacked so high against us I don't see how it could get worse.
