I was watching the Wiscy v Ore and the Georgia v Tenn back and forth. At some point I had to mute Herbstreit. He just doesn't have an economy of words nor does he know when to let the game and crowd just sink into the broadcast. Blackledge is a master at commentary and knows when to say nothing whereas I feel Herbstreit needs an occasional cup of STFU.

I was thinking that same thing watching black ledge and eagle converse. They work well together and don’t feel to keep talking like romo etc.

I like them both also. I think Fowler and Herbstreit are a good team. Even though there was grumbling on the game thread, I also like Danielson and Nessler. Blackledge is great as well. These guys are mainstays in college football and far exceed the announcers that the BTN and second tier ESPN channels put out there.

I watched a bit of the Washington-Philadelphia game the other night and I believe Herbstreit was doing the color commentary with Al Michaels - I may be misremembering, but it was definitely a recent NFL game that was streaming. I thought he was actually doing a pretty good job and thought that maybe the pro game was a better fit for him. Most of the time these days, I watch with the sound muted.

This guy isn't on the Herbstreit bandwagon. It seems the critique was written at halftime by a Vols fan.

I’ve always liked Nessler. I thought Danielson had a rough day. He was wrong on a lot of things, he especially had the penalties and who they were called in wrong. Maybe it was his spotter?
In any case they were 10x better than Gus and 100x better than the Peacock Crew.
Also what has happened to MRob as an announcer? He was much better before he decided to got to the over the top routine.

“Herbstreit and Fowler both poked fun at Tennessee's wide receivers for being cold on the sideline due to a section of heated benches not working (it was 55 degrees and breezy on the field).”

Oh please play at PSU for round one and hopefully it will be 20 degrees with wind gusts and flurries.

Flurries, hell. How about one of those snow squalls that I remember? Anybody for a real "whiteout?"

That said, I've lived in metro Atlanta for over 40 years. Once you get used to the mild weather, the chill does hit you. Today it's supposed to be about 70 degrees for a high and tomorrow low 70s, but it got down in the low 40s this morning. When winter comes, it takes awhile to adjust to it, and then there are warm days in between that affect the adjustment. The other thing is that the air tends to be humid, so it feels cold. These Southern schools are going to get a cold slap in the face when they come North.

Blackledge is the best by far. Others are as good at explaining why/how a play unfolded, but none are better at predicting what's going to happen on a play. I really enjoy his insights.

I don't honestly, and as other have mentioned Nessler/Danielson are good as well. Herby is just over the top a bit with too much analysis/commentary where little or none is needed

It's not bias, simply listen to the broadcast. Herbstreit is a constant chatter, like a person sitting next to you during a game that keeps talking to you completely oblivious of what is going on in the field. Some may like Herbstreit and that is fine, just like some might like Gus.

Herbstreit is good.
Rosie Perez not so good.
Nessler is great.
Danielson should keep quiet a bit
Blackledge is my favorite, go Penn State

But mainly, and more than anything, Gus Johnson is a clown show.

And since I'm up here bitching, it would be nice to watch a Penn State game without hearing references to Ohio State 90 effing times during the broadcast. "Nittany Lions with a touchdown! Something they couldn't do against ohio state". Who the F watching this game wants to hear that. Again. And the Same old Story graphic showing Penn State's offensive production split against OSU/Michigan vs everyone else.

We. Are. Aware. Get that crap off my TV.

One of the things that I hate about Gus Johnson and Joel Klatt is that they clearly have rehearsed things to say and they are going to say them during the game whether they are applicable or not. They must think what they are going to stay will be fascinating to the viewers because they work so hard to get them in whether they make sense at the time or not. Herbstreit and Fowler both do it, too. I think one of things that makes Blackledge so good is that he talks about what is happening in front of him and doesn't add all of the pre-prepared material, which is why he isn't talking all the time like some of the other guys.

I like Klatt by himself. I can't stand Gus Johnson and have never liked him back to his bball days.
"The Big Zamboni" is just big fcking stupid.

I like Herbie and Todd. I did notice Herbie doing a lot of talking during the college game last night. Talking over the ref during a penalty call stood out to me. First time I ever thought that during one of his games. I think every announcer - pro and college - could be really well served by employing a “less is more” approach.

I had a REALLY difficult time watching Gameday yesterday. 99% of the show is them talking over each other. It’s gotten much worse since Pat got on the show. There’s just too many people on the show now and you can’t decipher what they are even saying.

Also, Gus Johnson can suck my nuts.

One thing that has surprised me is how well Nick Saban has done on Gameday. The first few weeks he looked so uncomfortable with Pat McAfee's antics and yelling. I would venture a guess that many college aged kids don't realize Chris Fowler was part of the original Gameday. Herbstreit's travel is ridiculous. I wonder if his wife misses him.

She might be encouraging him to travel more - do you think she wants him constantly chattering around the house?

I like them both.
Both of those crews are infinitely better than Gus and Klatt. Can't stand the FOX crew. I don't love the play by play guy Blackledge has though, like the guys he used to be paired up with better. There's just something about Eagle I don't like, can't put my finger on it though as he seems solid. Maybe just the way his voice sounds and I associate him more with basketball.

Danielson has been that way for a while, he's just way off on a lot of calls. The SEC fans have been pointing this out for years. Errors aside those guys still do a solid job and Nessler is really good. Also way better than the FOX crew. Gus Johnson is now in insufferable territory, I can't stand listening to him.

I never cared for Keith Jackson.
I never did either. I didn't realize that Jackson was a Georgia native or I might have thought a bit differently - and my attitude towards Southerners has mellowed considerably the longer I've lived here (I still think their Southern-fried football is way overrated). I always felt that he favored the Southern and Big 8/12 teams. And I disliked his "folksy" delivery/sayings. Just not my cup of tea. The worst was when he was paired with Frank Broyles or Bob Griese. Both always seemed anti-PSU to me.

My favorite college crew back in the day was Brent Musberger and Dick Vermeil. Vermeil was superb and kept Brent in line (which he often needed).

As for Dick Vermeil — didn’t he literally once say “Penn State’s passing game sucks” during a game?

Yes, 1993, I think John Sacca might have been the QB and gave way to Collins. I think Sacca transferred the next week.

Musburger was a big Ohio State homer. He used to drool over the sweatervest.
