Personal story involving Mr. Uecker. In high school and college I worked at Champion Lakes Golf Course in my hometown near Ligonier. It was built and is owned by Dick Groat, 1960 NL MVP for the Pirates. Great job.

I was in the pro shop working and got a call into the tee time line. I answered and somebody said ‘This is Bob Uecker. I’d like to talk to Dick Groat.’ Sounded like him but I said ‘funny joke’ and hung up.

Sure enough, phone rings again and the guy says ‘Bob Uecker for Dick Groat’. I said ‘hey buddy quit calling here’ and hung up.

Third time the phone rings, same guy. He says ‘Listen this is Bob Uecker and I want to talk to Dick Groat. Now go get him out of bed and tell him to call me.’

So, I call Mr. Groat and told him Bob Uecker wanted him to return a call. Mr. Groat said ‘it probably was him. I know him. ***hole probably wants to play golf tomorrow.’
Sure enough, 30 minutes later, Mr. Groat tells me it was Uecker and he has to play golf with him the next day. And he finished it up by saying ‘Uecker told me to tell you that he’s not famous enough for anybody to pretend to be.’

Mr. Groat liked Uecker but said he never shuts up and makes you laugh too hard to play golf well.

Growing up without a TV, I still love to listen to baseball games. Even though I’m a Phils fan, I occasionally tune in to a Brews game on MLBAudio because Uecker calls a good game.
