I published my first novel, The Unlikely Candidate, four years ago. With Dawgstudent's permission, I promoted it here on SixPack in this post. Many of you were kind enough to buy it.

I published the sequel, The Unlikely President, two years ago. Both books are available on Amazon in hardback, paperback, and Kindle versions. You can learn more about me and both books at my Amazon author page here. Note that you can read the first book for free on Kindle Unlimited.

I'm mentioning this now because the third book in the series, The Unlikely Advisor, will be available in a month or two, also on Amazon in all three formats.

I take a fictional former governor of Mississippi through a presidential campaign and use that as the setting for making the argument for conservative policy positions. I also include a dose of Christian apologetics and media criticism. The idea is to explore the "why" behind conservative policies and the Christian faith in a setting that's (hopefully) more entertaining than a newspaper editorial or a sermon.

Sixpack summary: Boom Boom and mstateglfr will hate these books.

Teaser: the upcoming third novel also includes an attempt to resurrect the city of Jackson as one of the subplots.

I hope you'll give them a read.

How did this character say casino and hurricane?
In my head, he sounds a little like Haley Barbour, although I don't think either word is used in the books. Clearly a missed opportunity on my part to talk about "casinas" and "HURRicuns.".

Does the main character get furious if someone likes baseball?
Not at all. One of the scenes in the upcoming book involves his wife making them late for a Washington Nationals game. His frustration with her inability to get ready on time may or not be from my own personal experience.

How much does it hurt your book sales when most of your target audience cannot read?***

Good luck - writing well is one of the more difficult things a person can do

Looking at that old thread I was asking myself why I didn't purchase your first book. Then I noticed the date. Turns out there was a lot going on at the time; planning for a wedding and some strange bug was going around, but I'm unlikely to recall its name.

Buying a copy now. If I'm into it I may shamelessly hit you up for signed copies of the other 2. But you have to sign it with your SPS handle.

Thank you sir! Yes, the first book came out at the height of the pandemic. I thought about delaying it but real-world events were starting to resemble my fiction. I was afraid to wait any longer to get it out. Will happily sign as many copies as you like.

So, I know this is tongue-in-cheek, but it brings to mind a phrase I've heard multiple times when talking to people about my writing "Ah don't read ver' miny books."

I heard this several times at events in Columbus, GA and just outside Ashville, NC. Made rural Mississippians sound like the pinnacle of culture and intellect.

Not because I can't read... but just because I have found I get more books 'read' this way - will you have them in audiobook format at some point?

This is a good question, and others have asked me about it. I don't have current plans for audio versions but mainly because I just don't know how the process and economics work. Seems like something worth investigating, so I'll add that to my to-do list.

I enjoyed the first one…didn’t realize you had written a second. I’ll likely check the subsequent ones out.

Really enjoyed the first book. Read it sitting on the beach and enjoyed how you used his faith to explain policy positions. I've got to get the second one and now I guess the third!

Thanks for the kind words and for reading.

My guy is careful to use only secular arguments for his policies, at least at first. One of the ironies of the books is that he doesn't invoke religion in public forums until the secularists attack his faith., thereby forcing him to talk about religion.
