The Deion Sanders effect. 8 million people tuned into an absolute blowout because of Coach Prime. That is also the only bowl game that was a sellout. More than 64,000 in attendance. Almost 15,000 more than the next highest attended bowl.

Especially since 17 of 36 non CFP bowl games are directly owned and operated by ESPN themselves
Not to mention their sister networks repeat home alone and elf non-stop for 3 weeks so not much competition. I’m good with it before Christmas but after need to move on to something else.

With these ratings they are getting they won’t be scrapped anytime soon for all you bowl haters.

They won’t go away. But still pointless, outside of mindless TV content. They don’t hurt or help your program.

People that want them gone just want games of significance. It’s not deeper than that.

Hard to compare that since baseball plays so many games.

Bowl Games that aren’t playoff games are exhibition games.

Ok…..still the point is they get eyeballs. Doesn’t really matter if they are legit games or not.

So does porn. Doesn’t mean it’s a good thing or that it matters, OR that it helps society in any way.

If bowl execs can make money, have at it. I’d watch MSU but outside of that, bleh.

I don't understand the bowl hate at all. Most bowl games are more entertaining to watch than a regular season NFL game. Bowls being "pointless" as far as determining a champion is nothing new. Up until the advent of the BCS, it was rare and accidental for any single bowl game to not be "pointless", but somehow or another college football is still one of the most popular sports in country.

Let's wait and compare the viewers for the remaining championship games

I don't have a strong opinion either way, but my only issue with there being so many bowls is that is devalues the achievement. And for State, that's really all we realistically play for. I'm not saying making the CFB in the future is impossible, but our realistic goal every year is pretty much make the best bowl game we can.

There are many other factors at play such as opt-outs, expanded playoff etc, but no one is really bragging about making a better bowl than their rival anymore. There just doesn't feel like a huge difference between making the Music City, Texas, Outback, Gator or even Liberty Bowl anymore - at least to me.

As an aside, this is a big reason why I hoped for the "pod" division system. Even if it wouldn't be a massive achievement winning a pod of like 4 teams or whatever, it would give us something a little more tangible/meaningful to play for I think.

We love to go to bowl games that state plays in. I grew up going to the liberty bowl every year because my mama would get free tix from sales folks every year.

It's a bit different with every pairing. Always fun nonetheless as a spectator.

I swear I can not comprehend people complaining about the bowls games. Are you a college football fan or not ? I don't make it a point to watch all of them but I like watching football. The bowl games are great, they are important and they are a money maker

I guess I'm in the minority because I haven't watched a minute of bowl games except for the playoffs

Well of course not, only a true idiot thought they would go away. I know that disappoints you folks who want less football.

Attendance at bowl games has always been low. They are TV spectacle.

...at this point though, the ones that want less foosball haven't figured out the espn will gladly televise Texas aTm corpus christi versus Lamar in basketball on one of the other channels.

I mean...in one way, this is an awesome time to be alive. They'll show all sorts on TV. I used to go find a game to be at in the stand while I was traveling for biz....yes, I've been to a Lamar university game.
