Far better than his performance as a head coach.
He was actually a very good head coach. He simply has little patience for prima donnas like JJ Watt and Desean Watson. In the end, he was correct.Far better than his performance as a head coach.
He also had little patience for whining Joebot fans. He was correct about that, too.He was actually a very good head coach. He simply has little patience for prima donnas like JJ Watt and Desean Watson. In the end, he was correct.
He lost to Ohio and he lied to Hack.He also had little patience for whining Joebot fans. He was correct about that, too.
Didn’t help him against Ohio.Having the best players every time you step on the field makes coaches look really good.
That should tell you something about his competency and his character.so what?
he was still right about our whining fanbaseThat should tell you something about his competency and his character.
No he wasn’t, he was just a hot head.he was still right about our whining fanbase
Seems Mauti and Zordich were ok with his competency and character. That should tell you something about his competency and his character.
Hodges too. He was a great punt returner. That didn’t cost us a game or anything.Seems Mauti and Zordich were ok with his competency and character.
He blew out Iowa on the road, beat Michigan, and beat Wisconsin twice, including on the road as a 24 point underdog. Paterno struggled to beat all 3 of those teams in his last decade at the helm. You can’t criticize his first ever game as a head coach without giving him credit for some quality wins.He lost to Ohio and he lied to Hack.
You’re clueless. O’Brien failed when he made a power play for the GM job. He ran Rick Smith off and surrounded himself with “yes” men. The owner allowed it all to happen but the D-Hop trade was the final straw. The core group of players left stood up and he was let go. He’s an egomaniac who struggled with authority at PSU and Houston. Perhaps he’ll swallow his pride and do better if given another chance. He ruined a good thing in Houston with his terrible trades and free agent signings. He was actually a very good head coach. Sure he had nice moments. But middle linebackers returning punts? C’mon man. First PSU coach to lose to IU.He blew out Iowa on the road, beat Michigan, and beat Wisconsin twice, including on the road as a 24 point underdog. He didn’t lose to Toledo. He didn’t leave a 4 star QB on the bench in Iowa in 2008 when Clark was clearly not himself. The same 4 star backup who helped them win in Columbus the week before.Sure he had nice moments. But middle linebackers returning punts? C’mon man. First PSU coach to lose to IU.
While I can’t disagree with most of this, I have heard NFL guys say he wasn’t going to be able to sign both DHop and Watson to large, long term deals. Therefore, he chose to sign the franchise QB, which most NFL GMs would have also done without question. You’re clueless. O’Brien failed when he made a power play for the GM job. D-Hop wanted a new deal but he showed up and put up numbers. OBrien traded him for a backup RB and his absurd contract, a 2nd round pick, and a swap of 4th round picks. Strong rumors indicated that at least three teams offered a 1st for him but OBrien wanted him in the NFC.While I can’t disagree with most of this, I have heard NFL guys say he wasn’t going to be able to sign both DHop and Watson to large, long term deals. Denny Onkots in 69Sure he had nice moments. But middle linebackers returning punts? C’mon man. First PSU coach to lose to IU.
He saved the program when the ncaa and the conference were trying destroy Ok he left for the nfl which Joe didn't do , but Joe never would have made it in the pros I am tired of the Obrien bashing just sick of it HE SAVED US PERIOD
Yep, he didn’t like lying to teenagers and their families.OB was a good coach but recruiting was not his thing.
Like most FBS coaches.Yep, he didn’t like lying to teenagers and their families.
Joe took the hc job in NE, but slept on it and turned it down.He saved the program when the ncaa and the conference were trying destroy Ok he left for the nfl which Joe didn't do , but Joe never would have made it in the pros I am tired of the Obrien bashing just sick of it HE SAVED US PERIOD
Offensive coordinator? He could have been our new (again) Head Coach.
Yet, Hack had his only impressive season with O’Brien. Maybe that was a reflection on his coaching?A lot of people were convinced that Hack was a legit NFL prospect, OB was one of them.
Clearly those people were wrong, and you could see that while he was at PSU. Being a good Xs and Os guy (which I think OB is) doesn't make you a great head coach or evaluator of talent.
