Surprised there are more posts on this one. Lawing was a terrific coach. His visit on Erik Kimrey’s Podcast a few years ago was one of the most insightful looks into how College Football works that I can recall. I recommend it.

I have listened to that podcast several times. He said that Gilmore's parents recorded a clemson coach committing a major violation and gave USC coaches the recording. They held it over clemson's head for the next few years to "win the state" in recruiting at a time when there was a lot of in-state talent. If I recall correctly, it was Lawing that said this. I do misremember quite a lot, but mostly from my 20s.

They didn’t have good things to say about Billy Napier either. In fact, it sounded like a lot of the Clemson coaches apologized because they were embarrassed by the way he handled the issue we had making a phone call during a dead period.
