The rebuilding of the pitching staff began today. 5 of our first 6 draft picks today were pitchers, with the first 3 being High School pitchers. Glavine is getting old, Smoltz is going under the knife again, Hampton is Hampton. I would guess the new GM is ready to make long term plans and most likely is surrendering hope that the current core will get back to the World Series. I'm affraid we'll see a dip in performance over the next several years, but it's certainly been a good run. Loosing Smoltz not only kills the season, but ends an era. I think Cox will step down in the next year or two.

while losing Smoltz does hurt I don't think it will kill the season. Our bullpen recently got Soriano back but more importantly will get Mike Gonzalez back soon. He was a stud before his injury. We also lead the NL in ERA and the offense is pretty good. The Braves have a shot at the East if we can start playing better on the road. Hopefully they will.</p>

Not only the road woes, but I think they're something like 1-15 in one run games. Insane considering they are an above .500 team.

His average is up to .418, which is <17>ing sick. If they could figure out how to start playing .500 baseball on the road they will be the team to beat in the NL East. Getting Mark Kotsay back healthy in CF will factor in as well, though Blanco has done a serviceable job in his place to date.

The Braves are just a really unlucky team. Assuming it balances out over the course of the season, I think they have a good shot at the playoffs, and once they're there, who knows?
