Is this payback for the recruit that did the signing day switcheroo?

Robinson seems like a high end talent from all reports, but he may still need some development, especially physically in the S&C program, before he can really break out at DE. Too bad he couldn't have transferred and enrolled at PSU in January to get into PSU winter S&C program and Spring practices......

I recall that last week CJF made some remarks about the transfer portal which seemed to be out of character for him, giving out an unusual amount of information. Maybe it was this.

He has 3 years of eligibility remaining. When you look at how much playing time Ebiketie got last season I wonder how DE recruits like Sutton and Durant feel about this.

Durant is a DT. I still say DDS will be starting by the 2nd Big 10 game. If DDS is not starting, he will be 2nd string behind Tarburton. AK was an establish college DE. Robinson is a developing player, especially at DE. We basically rotated 3 DEs last year with a little Vilbert or Fisher or maybe Vanover picking up some reps. If all goes well, Isaac, Tarburton, and DDS would be top 3 with Chop being rotated in to provide pass rush. Diaz said pass rush is the best coverage and you get pass rush by having a deep rotation.

Most expect Isaac and Tarburton to be the starting DE's to begin the season, with DDI playing some from the first game and earning more playing time as the season goes along. But any anointing of Robinson, a 2nd year player who reportedly played his first year at LB, as the 3rd or 4th DE to begin the season seems to be discounting the progress that the young DE's on the PSU roster have likely made over the last year. As you said, Robinson is a developing player at DE going into his 2nd year of college football, whereas Vilbert and Fisher have been practicing at DE for a couple of years, with Fisher going into his 3rd year and Vilbert going into his 4th year at PSU. Vanover has been playing his whole PSU career on the DL and is also going into his 3rd year at PSU, and I believe Franklin has mentioned the progress Townley has made at DE in his 2nd year as well. Vanover had 3 sacks in the PSU bowl game versus Robinson's 2 during the 2021 season.

I'm wondering if Robinson wouldn't help PSU more at LB where he reportedly played at MD. He looks like an athletic option at Mike, or if he was at Will it would allow Jacobs to go back to Sam where he has AA potential.

Our boys on the podcast said Robinson won 33% of his 28 "true pass rush sets" -- a small sample size, sure, but still good for No. 5 in the Big Ten. Not bad for a true freshman!
