I have no idea what these kids are going to do but EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM should enter the portal to leverage their options unless they are from a financially sucure background.

I'm not saying its best for the team long run or the kid but its a business. Nothing more nothing less.

you do realize once they do this... the university owes them nothing. No scholarship, no nothing, no food, no rent check, no weight room access

And you do realize there are 1000s.. literally THOUSANDS.. of kids in the portal, that entered the portal doing exactly what you said do... and didnt find a team to even play on the following year..... so they could be leveraging their way out of the game

Absolutely and if the football program is a winning program they are processing the types of kids that don't have options. Going into the portal at least gives you the disguise that it was your choice. Of the THOUSANDS that didn't have options its because they aren't any good. In this kids case he's going to have options including coming back to State. In most negotiations you are going to get more $$$ if you haven't committed before the negotiation begins.

I know Bama used to process kids via a "health clause" to keep their roster fresh from recruiting misses. Those kids were allowed to stay on scholarship but didn't play football any longer and didn't count towards their 85.

Trust me when I say I HATE the system and it has essentially taken the joy of college sports from me. I was a junkie up until the transfer portal. I don't hate the kids for taking the chance to be paid via NIL.....but I do hate the multiple transfers.

A friend asked me this morning how much Dak would have been paid his Sr. year to go to LSU? It would have hurt some kinda bad to see that.

This is just bad advice and hard to comprehend.

A lot of what you are saying about the portal and "proecessing kids" just isnt facts... and the thousands that are in the portal.. a large portion of them arent there because they suck. There is a lot of bad advice that gets floated around.

If you are a top tier player sure you have options. Most dont have as many as you think.. and to suggest everyone should just enter the portal and use their leverage is bad advice. Most players dont have the leverage you seem to think they do.

That's definitely not one we can afford to lose. There is only a handful on that side of the ball that were good last year. But hiw much worse can it get ? 1 and 11 ? Lol

On the bright side maybe, this will open the eyes of some adult to step in and tell Lib he has to make some changes.

This is a tiny example of why I don't like the version of college football today. The team idea of school loyalty is pretty much dead. Brands will replace institutions. I hope it doesn't kill the love of the sport, but I see where this is headed. The schools with the most money will win. The rest will just be fighting for the scraps.

You and me both, IB. This form of college football does not interest me one bit.

I saw the signs. I tried to ignore them and hoped we would have a great season. Now I realize I was completely wrong. The days of building a team from scratch are gone.

Thats half the fun of following a team. Its like MLB used to be or NFL used to be. You follow the farm team and the draft picks, know the players. Free Agency took all the fun out of it.

I can remember going through the roster in game programs. Looking at freshmen and sophomores trying to figure out the next stars.

It was a different world.
