Georgia's mascot UGA VI just died, meaning that they're looking for UGA VII. Meanwhile, we're on our nineteenth Bully. I believe that we both started with the mascots at a similar time, so does anyone have a reason that we go through them nearly three times as fast as them?

Important questions, brought to you by the Six Pack.

My boss is a Georgia fan, and even has a bulldog named Munson, after Larry Munson, their announcer.

So, she felt the need one day to educate me on UGA. Anyway, Uga started after we had Bully, I believe is what it comes down to, so therefore, we have had more Bully's than they have had Uga's.

Their fans ARE REALLY into Uga. They know all kinds of crazy stuff and facts about Uga. My boss asked me why I didn't know all of this stuff about Bully, and I told her it just wasn't that big of a deal.

Edit to say I looked it up on google, and we officially have had a Bulldog mascot since 1935, although we had some unofficial Bulldog mascots from time to time, and UGA started in 1956 with UGA.

If I remember correctly, one of our latest Bullies was more aggressive than we thought it should be and we went and found a new Bully.

Obviously, we don't honor this tradition too greatly. If you can even call it a tradition.

You are right. We keep 'em a few years then get a younger offspring.

Gawga keeps theirs til he dies.

As usual, somebody at State screwed up our Bully tradition. He used to live in Old Main and slept wherever. They had a funeral covered by Life magazine for one. It used to be as big or bigger than UGA.

Gawga saw a good marketing tool. State saw a short, fat dog. I do like the monument to the past Bullys at the 50 on the west side.

As a kid I always thought it would be a good idea for Bully to be a permanent game captain and go out for the coin toss with the players. One of them could hold his leash or something. Still not a bad idea, I think.

think that Bully only lasted one game maybe. Had a UGA fan tell me how their dog was more rare or some BS back in the 80's (ours is a more common variety).

Bulldogs are prone to a lot of problems, from what I have heard. From what I understand, they are very prone to overheat, which of course is a problem in the South.

Bulldogs typically have short life spans of about 6-10 years. They're not supposed to be out in weather that's above 80 degrees due to their breathing problems. Dogs don't sweat anywhere but their paws and nose, so bulldogs are at an extreme disadvantage since they can't breathe very well either. Also, they're prone to joint problems and skin disease.

All that being said, if you take good care of a bulldog and know their problems, I think they can live as long as most other dogs. I'll tell you one thing though. Anyone that tells you that they're docile creatures has never raised one. I've got one that is the wildest dog I have EVER been around.

and he is 8 now. He will lay around if your doing something and not messing with him though. I think the bulldog they replaced was because he didn't like being around many people. Although it did kick *** when UGA tried to bite the AU guy in the endzone that time, you don't exactly want him trying to bite kids trying to pet him.

some Ole Miss 17heads killed a couple or 3 bulldogs. Some one correct me if I am wrong.

a Genespage rumor. Prayer's sent.

I'm sure that some Ole Miss students have probably tried to or have stolen Bully in the past, though.

that some Ole Miss students got hold of one Bully and painted him red and blue, and he died from lead poisoning.

freaked out on the sidelines and bit/clamped down onto the wrist of the guy in the Bully costume. I think we've had a few since then.

had two bullies run out before a game during the 2005 season, Tonka with one of his pups, kind of as a test drive for the pup, and he ran right into the band, knocked a guy over, and they couldn't coax it out of the hedges for at least 5 minutes after the game had started. Needless to say, he was given to a prominent family about 3 days later. I want to say it was Houston, but I'm not sure. When the music started, the dog freaked out.

...but if you treat them well, they can live longer. I had a bulldog that lived to almost be a teenager.

season. I think he had bitten a cheerleader during a photo shoot. Humphrey was already 7 years old when he was selected by tryout at the vet school and he did it for 2 seasons during which we went to the Peach and Independence (Snow) Bowls. He lived for 2 more years after he retired and they buried him under the flagpole at the stadium. To my knowledge, we were the first Bully to make it to basketball games prompting Duffy Douchebauer (Operations Coordinator at Humphrey Coliseum) to proclaim that you can't have a dog in here because we serve food here.. He tried to stop it, but LT stepped in and never heard another word out of ole Duffy. Tonka has been a great Bully because he was the first one that was really raised from the beginning by a trainer to perform at the games. The sprint at the beginning of football games and sitting all alone with the spot on him at basketball games is just incredible. No way in hell UGA tops that.

Thanks for posting that. I wonder if Duffy will retain his job under Greg.

Duffy Douchebauer

Now that's just too good to be true. Someone in the old regime named "Douchebauer".

That's pretty much what I think of the damn band myself.
