Dude's only 64, which isn't a big deal these days. Numerous head coaches who are older. Was a defensive mastermind in his day. Make use of those family connections.

Maybe with Ellis Johnson as an off-field assistant. He's 72 after all.

Bud Foster today:

He still maintains an office in Blacksburg and contributes to the program. The closest he's come to actually coaching, however, is through family and flag football. "My oldest grandson, he's six. He played flag football this year for the first time and my son coached him, so I guess it runs in the family," says Foster. "Retired life is good. I do miss certain things. I don't miss the grind. Family is doing well, I'm enjoying trying to spoil my 5 grandchildren."

Make the man an offer he can't refuse. He's got a lot of defensive knowledge rolling around in that head of his.

Maybe as an analyst / mentor? Coach 'em all up, including the staff.

A lot of VT fans felt this way about Frank Beamer as well, along with him staying several years too long.

I agree ... there's a reason coaches need or have to change with times .
Perfect example Saban hated teams that run the HUNH . In fact he lobby the NCAA to disallow it due to safety concerns. Finnaly he adapted and won Championships. Why do you think he hired Kiffin.

Is the DC position open?

I want Beamer to have whoever he wants so there are no excuses. Life is too short to watch a bend but don't break defense again tho.

There is a reason he never became a head coach. He is staying in Blacksburg and going to live a quiet life out of the limelight.

Bud Foster was one of the best, but Zach Arnett should be the guy.

I've got a great idea...Bud Foster, Chizick, Roof, and EJ are ALL available RIGHT NOW! Fire all of our defensive coaches and just hire all of those guys and tell them to figure it out. lol

He put Tech on the map, and came within one big play of winning it all in 99. They have done nothing of any consequence since he left, and he is in the Hall of Fame

Spurrier and Holtz both won it all and were much more successful overall than Frank Beamer was. Why didn't we go after Skip or Steve Jr. if there is some sort of genetic predisposition to coaching success?

You are correct on both accounts, but the downturn started a few years, as told to me, before he left hence why some VT fans felt he stayed too long.

Personally don't care about the reason(s) as I don't really care for them and glad to see the downturn no matter the reason.

Because there is no reason. To think there will be good returns
