Derrick Zimmerman could tell Jamont all about what happens to great athletes who can do anything on a basketball court except put the ball in the basket.

Good point about Zimmerman - I always figured if Lindsey Hunter could make it, why not Zimmerman. Or even Rondo - he had to be about on par with Rondo defensively. Was his offense THAT far behind even Rondo, who isn't a great shooter?

I don't know if he came back if he gets drafted or not. He shot selection and jump shot would all have to improve by about 20% to insure he'd be drafted and I'm not sure he'd pull that off.

and he can guard both backcourt positions. Rondo got drafted because of his quickness and defense. He can get anywhere he wants to go on the floor and he is a terror on defense. He reportedly destroyed the other PG prospects in his draft class during \workouts.

simply by learning not to take so many bad shots. His shot selection was worse than terrible and that's the biggest reason his shooting percentages were so bad. Many on this board criticize Jamont unfairly, but one criticism that is fair is that far too many times when he got the ball in the backcourt you could tell by the look in his eyes that nobody else was going to touch the ball and he was going to fire up a wild 3-pointer with 25 seconds left on the shot clock.

but not his basic skills. Honest question here - I don't know the answer. Can a shooter his age improve his shooting ability through practice and/or coaching? Or is he basically at his best already?

Kobe Bryant wasn't a good jumpshooter at all when he came into the league.. he worked at it and now he's pretty reliable from any range when he takes good shots.

Same with Jordan. He was a slashing scorer when he came into the league. Of course he could shoot well too, but he wasn't nearly the shooter early in his career that he was late in his career.

Kobe is 6-7 I think?
Jordan is 6-6?

Both are a TON quicker than Jamont.....I think that Jordon holds the record in some obscure measurement on quickness that is used for NBA players...something like how many times they can pick up each foot and set it down in a 15 second interval while standing..

to be a good jump shooter? Why wasn't Gheorge Mhuresan better at it then?

I don't think anyone was comparing Jamont to Kobe or MJ. No one is that stupid. The point is to prove that yes it is possible to improve your jumpshot throughout your career.

The question was whether or not a player his age can improve his shooting ability, and two examples were given.

Didn't mean to imply that all he needed to improve was his shot selection. I do think that with better shot selection, he probably would have been drafted, but he definitely needs to improve both if he ever wants to play in the NBA.
