Buy/Sell - Brett Favre should shut up and retire.

I know last year he tore it up and put up some tremendous numbers. Also, it would've been a whole lot sweeter had Brett and the cheeseheads beaten the Giants/Eli and if they were the team to make it to the Super Bowl to beat the Pats. Plus Brett always played with so much moxie and bravado he made it fun to watch a game even back in his playing days at USM ....but I'm just about tired of his bitching, whining, moaning and groaning to Greta Van Sustern (sp?). Why can't he go out a winner? Why is he trying to pull a Polk-type tirade?

So <17> it, I'm buying.

Guess guys like Brett just can't walk away from the game and go play golf, spend time with wifey or pick up the kids from school.

I can't stand him, I think he's an arrogant ***...but then again so are most professional athletes. I admit he's an amazing QB and he could still put up outstanding numbers but the bottom line is HE SIGNED the 10 year contract...now with 2-3 years left he's hemmin and hawin about it. Shut up and be a man...you signed the contract, deal with it.

I'd like to see him play again. He actually looks like he is having fun out there. I don't see where this arrogant *** image comes from. I have always liked him.

According to this email I just got, he's having surgery. Of course, it is not a real sports column, but is funny.

I think he still has a solid 3 years left in him as a starting QB. He wasn't ready to retire...it was easy to tell when he cried like a baby in his press conference announcing the retirement. I think he thought it was a good time to retire because he had such a stellar year. Now that football is getting close, he is missing it like hell and wants to play. I haven't played in 8 years and I would give ANYTHING to put a uniform back on and play.

He is very talented, and probably has more heart for the game than anyone who has ever played. If he wants to play, he should play. The Packers should use him as a trade if they don't want him, but dont be a dick to him just because he wants back in. He made a mistake and wasn't ready. Green Bay should respect that and play their cards...especially what he has given them over the years.

I think Ford76 would appreciate that analogy:

That means the Packers can do whatever they want. If they want to release him or trade him they can. If not they are free to do that as well. Bottom line is Farve should not have retired if he wasn't ready. I don't blame the Packers one bit here, I wouldn't want to release him and watch him go to a rival either.

when Madden 09 comes out, and Favre is on the cover a Packer while playing for someone else. I personally will consider that a continuation of the jinx.

He says that he hopes to see him play somewhere next year, whether it is in Green Bay or not. He thought his retirement was premature and that after completing 66% of his passes last year that he shouldn't have retired. He was saying that you can't tarnish your legacy, because it is already on place. He feels the Packers should let him go.

He also did not rule out the possibility that Michael Brown could be returning to the team for the upcoming season.

If Favre were angling to go outside the conference (or even outside the division), there wouldn't be a problem. But the Packers understandably don't want to open their season at home on Monday night with Favre QBing one of their main contenders for the division title.
