I'm buying

getting that bunch to run the plays, defend, and to play as a team is an outstanding feat and just adds to his legacy as a great coach...

If you had to pick a coach for a 7 game series, is there anybody out there you would pick over him?

i can't believe the defense those all-stars were playing. i hope some of them carry that back to the nba. but i doubt it.

i will add this: i think a big part of coach k's success was because of the respect the players have for him, even those who didn't play for him. wasn't kobe going to go to duke before he declared for the draft? i remember when they announced coach k, the players talked about how excited they were to play for him, because of his reputation. i think that respect allowed him to get more out of the players than other coaches would have been able to get.

You guys must not watch much NBA basketball. Getting "that bunch" to run plays, play defense, etc? Those guys are the best players in the world. The last roster they sent maybe you had a point if they had won but the 2008 team is the best assembled roster of talent since 1992.
Kobe is always on the all-defensive team. Ditto for Jason Kidd. Lebron's defense is way underrated because of everything else he does and people are just now getting to see it on a world stage. Melo and D-Wade aren't known for their defense so they did step it up a little. It's easier to play great team basketball when you're playing with other great players. J-Kidd, Deron Williams, Chris Paul, and Tayshaun Prince are the consummate team players, as is Lebron. Kobe isn't exactly known as a team player but he was much more so this year and that's why he won MVP of the league (even though CP3 deserved it).

who would you take over him to coach your team in a 7 game series? I love Jackson too, but i'd still take Kruschovsky over him

We talking "here's a team, go coach a seven game series" or are we assuming each coach has had three years with the team? I'm choosing Jackson for one, and K or Pops for the other.

I think he's the best coach in the NBA. Robert Horry agrees with me (and he's played for both). I know Jackson has 9 rings but I think if you give Popovich O'Neal, Bryant, Jordan, and Pippen, he'd have more than the 4 he already has.

I think lots of guys could coach the 2008 Olympic team to a gold medal. Could Coach K take a regular NBA team (that doesn't have all star players) and coach them to an NBA title?.. maybe he could but it's certainly no slam dunk. College coaches don't generally fare well in the NBA when you have to deal with all the personalities from stars to role players (we've seen from Phil Jackson's book how hard it was to coach Kobe Bryant, even when they were winning titles).

Not trying to be a homer here but our own Babe won the SEC 4 out of 5 years playing against Rupp and went on to multiple ABA Achampionships!

edited to add sorry if you meant current coaches only

Sell. Coach K is a great coach, and I think he is just the Coach that the USA needed to get them back to the gold medal stand... But that was more for motivational purposes, I feel.

Who, besides Phil? If it was so damned easy Larry Brown should've been able to do it. Maybe other coaches could've won with this talent. But those most assuredly wouldn't have won in as convincing a manner. I hate to always agree with Coach, but damned if he ain't right again.

Larry Brown didn't have near the same roster as Coack K did this year. Allen Iverson and Steph Marbury were the point guards. That tells you about all you need to know (Even though I like AI). Wade, Lebron, and Carmelo were just finishing their rookie seasons in the NBA and didn't get a lot of PT in the Olympics. Soft *** Lamar Odom was even on the team. The 2008 team would beat the 2004 team by double digits no matter who was coaching them.
