IMO, Raffo is one of the most highly qualified assistant coaches out there ... not that I want him sticking around MSU's program. I guess that depends on how you define "qualified". Polk is the one that screwed Raffo over by promising a job for years that he couldn't deliver in the end.

As in, better resume. Raffo has as much experience as a hitting coach as anyone, probably. That's not to say they won't be better, because I sure hope they are.

able to recruit worth a **** and evaluate talent, then BUY.

If by qualified you mean, able to schedule road trip buffets and laiason with FCA chapters, then SELL.

on what you consider to make him qualified from an assistant's standpoint. if it is experience, varied or not, then Raffo is fairly qualified to do the job of an assistant. if it is experience, varied by working at other universities and under several other head coaches, then Raffo is not qualified. i just don't know how much difference that makes.

like dickiedawg said....i don't know if they are more qualified or better coaches but i sure as hell hope they can do a better job than him. my reasoning basically boils down to this: if he was considered the #5 hitting coach in the country then i want us to hire #4 or better. easy enough. (yes i know he isn't #5...it was just an analogy)

I think Cohen's group will be better then McNickle and Raffo. Raffo may be a great assistant but as a hitting coach, I'll take someone else.

bashing Raffo for three months. Now that Cohen has the job, time to let it go.

As for your kind offer, yes, a tissue would be nice.

Furthermore, Raffo gave much of himself, his time, and his heart to serve MSU. The guy has never once come out and claimed he should be head coach. He interviewed for the job, and who can blame him, but that's it. This whole ordeal is Polk's fault and he alone should be blamed for it. In fact, we should be taking up for Raffo against Polk because ole #1 put Tommy in a tough place, and it's something that never should have happened. I hope Tommy Raffo lands somewhere nice and has an incredibly successful run.

in it when he chose not to speak about Polk & his actions.

Tommy should have said, "I appreciate what Coach Polk has done, and I thank him for his support, but we should give our 100% and undivided support to John and the Mississippi State baseball program!!"
I seriously doubt you will ever hear him say that.

for his loyalty to MSU and am appreciative of all that he has given to us as a player and a coach. Unfortunately for him, right now our program is NOT in a situation where we should "stay the course" and in my mind a Raffo hire would just be a rubber stamp to continue on with the current mediocrity of the program. If Raffo WAS going to do anything differently there was no way for us to know it because his whole coaching tenure has been under Polk and McMahon with no evidence of how he would run a program of his own any differently. I would have thought even more highly of Raffo had he come out with a statement after Cohen's hire to diffuse some of the stuff Polk was spewing. But for all I know he feels exactly as Polk does but just not crazy enough to kill his career and spew it out in the media.
