The Sabathia deal is just the beginning of the end of the Cubs this year. I say sell, but I'm nervous. The Cubs have been outstanding most of the year, but they have not been very good away from the friendly confines, and Kerry Wood as the back end of the bullpen is a little disconcerting. It seems like it is only a matter of time before he gets hurt. The Brewers are hitting well and winning. They already have a great (though injury prone) starter in Ben Sheets. Sheets and Sabathia make a great one-two punch.

All I'm going to say is that the trade deadline is the great midseason equalizer in MLB. The Cubs could very well go out and get someone that could put them over the top, to. We'll just have to wait until the end of the trade deadline to see. It's too soon to count anyone out.

It looks to me like the Brewers are going to go for all the marbles this year, and then they'll probably lose Sheets and Sabathia, assuming that the Sabathia trade is finalized, but if/when they lose those two they will get about five first round draft picks.

The Cubs don't need to be that worried about the Brewers until October. The Cards are the ones that should be worried. The Wild Card is coming out of the Central this year, and that now means the Cards have to be able to beat out either the Cubs or Brewers by the end of the year. That's going to be a big challenge for them.

The Cubs may or may not win the division, but that won't matter a whole lot, because they'll likely be the wild card team even if they don't win the division.

The Cubs are solid, sans one more starting pitcher...I look for them to make a deal before the deadline...I agree with Bruiser that it means the end of the Cardinals

</p>the Cardinals won't make a deal is no different than assuming that the Cubs won't make a deal. It's not the end for either team.

Like I said, we need to wait and see what everyone does by the trading deadline, which is a ways off to see what happens.

This probably is "the blockbuster trade" of this season, unless the Rockies trade Holliday. The rest of the people on the market are people like Ryan Dempster, Randy Wolf, and Xavier Nady.

Cubs and Cards will be in the playoffs. Both have good hitting which helps their pitching and I am still waiting on which pitcher the Cubs get before the deadline. The Cubs have more depth in their lineup which gives them the edge for now. Late season injuries will tell who makes it out on top. The Cards have one of the best coaches in the game which will help them hold off the Brewers. I just don't have faith in the Brewers holding through till season's end. I am a life-long, Die Hard Cub fan...therefore I know better than to make a solid prediction for their play the rest of the way out, but I still think they have a really solid lineup and bench this season. I also know no one can kill a good Cub season like the Cardinals. Should be fun to watch the rest of the way out and give me something to do till football starts.

The Cubs are still the better team. Obviously it puts pressure on the Cardinals, though.

It's going to be really interesting. I'm looking forward to watching a 3-team race.

That much is true. A 2-team race in the Central wouldn't be all that exciting this year since the loser of that race would still likely make the playoffs. A 3-team race will get interesting though, as at least one team will have to stay home.

It's a contract year. Any other year he would, but not this one.

Your a Cardinals fan. Sheets is an on the mound version of J.D. Drew. So, you should know how that goes.

(Note: Drew is having a good season this year. I'm not so sure that the Red Sox management didn't convince him he has the ability to opt out of his contract after the season. I've always been an advocate of signing Drew to one year deals. That way you know he won't take half the season off with a sinus infection.)
