Buy/Sell...we don't see the new scoreboard in operation in 2008....

...Big buy for me. When your stated goal is the last home game of the season, there's no margin for error, which always happens, in the form of screwups, weather, etc. This may be GB's first big mistake. We should've waited until the offseason to start.

Looks like Byrne might feel the same way.

from Veazey's blog

You guys were able to bolt your support structure to your existing scoreboard footings. We are having to do a lot more prep work to get the ground ready to support the new structure.

First, no we weren't able to use existing footings. However, our project had two plusses going for it that your project doesn't.

1) The support locations were not particularly restricted. With yours, you don't have a lot of options for interior supports. I believe ours is supported by 4 supports that are fairly evenly spaced. From the renderings, it looks like yours will only have 2 supports, spread all the way to the edges. This means the supports will have to be bigger, and therefore, construction of the footings and the supports themselves will likely take longer, and should be a slightly more complex process.

2) We didn't have to work on the project during football season. It's much easier to finish a project when you don't have down times where you have to clear out the site for games. With 6 home games, your construction crew will have to divide the work in ways that they complete certain pieces of the project in stages so as to not interfere with gamedays. With ours, the schedule could be set in any fashion, because the construction was not going to be in the way of any activities.

I'd also guess that the actual supports and construction are a big chunk of the cost on your board, which means you are likely getting your video board and sound system for a cheaper rate than what we're paying.

Byrne has this really great set of tools. He is going to put it up this weekend, when he flies in (with cape, not airplane) from Ruston.

Seriously, I think everyone in the AD is counting on it being up before season's end.

....when it was announced, they hoped to have it done by the Arkansas game. Then, Byrne says something to Veazey about "mid-October" being too optimistic, which was the first mention I had heard of it being done by mid-October, except for a couple of guys wishful thinking that it would be ready by the Auburn game.

We'll see. I'm not betting on it, though. The only glimmer of hope I have is that GB is running the show, and he seems to know how to get stuff accomplished. If this was still LT, there'd be no way.

I understand that you're in the business and know a hell of a lot more than probably all of us on this board, but do you care to let us in on what you're talking about or are you content simply making backhanded remarks about the project every so often?
