considered the best of all time.

Im selling... but the numbers he puts up in this day and age are really unbelievable when you think about it. I just don't think Kobe will get all the rings.

I'll start off by saying I'm a huge Lakers homer. I think Kobe is every bit as talented and as good as a player as Jordan (who many consider the best player ever). I agree the rings is what separates Jordan and Kobe, but Kobe isn't that far behind him there either. I think the Lakers will win the championship this year or next. That'll put Kobe at 4, 2 behind MJ. I'll sell on him overtaking MJ as the best ever. I think Kobe will own 4-5 rings by the time he retires. He won't be the best ever, but he'll be up there among the all-time greats for sure.

Granted, I think Kobe is the best player in the NBA right now, but he will not be in the conversation of best of all time. That future discussion is reserved for LeBron.

Lebron is a great player but Kobe is up in the stratosphere of great players. Kobe is not as universally liked as Jordan was but the talent and the ability to do anything he wants on a basketball court is the same. Now that he has some players that don't suck around him I think he will show exactly how freaking good he is this year in the playoffs.

Not THE best. One of the best. One of the most talented. One of those rare players that owns real estate called the fourth. Then again, if this year sets off a string of Laker championships, I dunno. He shouldn't have railed that honey up in Colorado. It's killed his image with the advertisers. I mean, a player that good having the Lakers on top of the West should be in every damn commercial out there. One of the things off the court that made Jordan so transcendent was that he could peddle everything from shoes to burgers to underwear.

You've also got another one out there right now who can pretty much make a bigger case. The Big Fundamental. His game may be boring, but Tim Duncan is one of the greatest players to ever step on a court.

/the commericial with Jordan out right now... "Maybe, you're just making excuses"... it's good.

Lebron is 23 years old.. 23... he won't hit his prime for another 5 years or so.. just think about that. Kobe is in his prime right now and Lebron may not be quite as skilled but he's just as dangerous a player and has taken a garbage team to the NBA Finals already. Kobe got lucky in that he got to play with one of the most dominant players ever while he was in his prime.. actually it wasn't luck. He pretty much strongarmed his way to the Lakers by telling teams not to draft him.
Kobe will never attain the status of Jordan because of the Colorado incident, the feud with Shaq, and the fact that he played on some mediocre/bad teams when Shaq left and then pissed and moaned about being traded. That stuff sticks to you.

if Tim Duncan wins another ring (which would make 5...and I expect him to.. and they'll be contending for 3-4 more years probably), he's undoubtedly the best player of this generation.

Exactly. People forget that this would be Lebron's rookie season if he spent 4 years in college. He's still very young, yet he's already considered a veteran due to his level of play and his maturity for the game.

I think Lebron will set the bar to a new level. One thing he has going for him is that he's big, and he does it all. He could play just about any position on the court and play it well. He reminds me of a bigger, stronger Jordan. People also forget that Jordan didn't have a great jump shot until later in his career. Lebron will likely be considered above Kobe when they are both retired and may be considered above Jordan.

which I expect to happen over the next 2-3 years, look out. Like you said, the bar will be set at a whole new level. I still think he will eventually average a triple double over a season.
He already shoots a higher FG percentage than Kobe ever has in his career. Nobody can stop him from going wherever he wants on the floor. Kobe is considered one of the premiere defenders in the game but Lebron just overpowers him and makes it look pretty easy. If Carlos Boozer hadn't stabbed the Cavs' owner in the back and bolted for Utah, the Cavs would be the favorite in the East every year for the next 10.

but many said that it would never happen again.. and I didn't mean a new level as in averaging a triple double.. I mean the numbers he's gonna put up over his career are gonna be staggering, probably multiple MVPs (as in more than 3.. I think he should already have at least 1, maybe 2) and probably multiple championships (assuming he's with a competent front office).
I'm thinking by about 2012 or 2013, if the team he's playing with at that time is savvy enough to team him with another star player, it's gonna be like the Bulls in the 90s. He's gonna have them right there every year with a good shot at the title.

i wasn't really arguing with you. in fact, i agree. i just think the big o deserves more respect when people talk about the greatest basketball players ever. i think he's certainly on the short list. although it is pretty hard to narrow it down to 5 or even 10.</p>

if you're on any list and the only other guy on that list is Jordan (only players to average 30, 7, and 7), then you're on the short list of the greatest players ever. I guess Lebron makes 3 now. Those might actually end up being Lebron's averages for his career.
