This year's defense gives up more points than the 2003 defense.

From what I can find, the 2003 defense gave up 471 points, which is the most in school history. This year's defense has currently given up 123 points through 4 games.

The 2003 defense only had 2 games in which it allowed less than 28 points but had 7 games it allowed more than 40.

I say buy. I think Texas, Georgia, Tennessee and Ole Miss will hit at least 50 and possibly 60+ on this year's defense.

Easy buy. I think you're being conservative on how many points TX, Tenn & Miss will put on us. UGA maybe only 50 or so. But the other 3 could easily put up 70 on us.

Most of our remaining opponents will score whatever they want to score. If they want to set a school record, they will. If they believe in "sportsmanship" then maybe they play the water boys. I put "sportsmanship" in quotes because honestly it is not any teams fault if their opponent doesn't field a defense, assuming they are both FBS teams, at least in category.

Easy buy. The D is bad and The fact Lebby plays so fast offensively and attempts to extend the game even when we are down 3+ TDs in 4th quarter doenst help.

Texas and Georgia could probably double the points we’ve given up so far

I think it will depend on how they tell their boosters to bet on the games. Texas can dial a score on both sides of the ball.

I think Kiffin will want to embarrass Lebby.
And maybe that will wake the rest of the fanbase and boosters up to the current reality of college football.

We still have that portion of the base that is indifferent until a UM skulldragging. THEN they get concerned. Just like 2008. There were still people in the fanbase who were adamant that things were on the upward track until that disaster of an EB. It wasn’t the drubbings throughout the year.. it was the EB.

And that is embarrassing in itself.

Will the bowl game count?

I wish we had a steel curtain, but this is a ridiculously easy buy. When you have no defense at all, teams can pick their points. The only way this team is going to give up less than 471 points is if we only give up 43 points per game in the remaining 8 contests. It's not happening.

Sad, but you may be right. One of the best things that happened to our football program was getting skulldrug by Mississippi 45-0 in 2008.

hadn't even considered the gambling angle. If you have a Texas against this year's MSU, it would be as close as you might come to creating whatever outcome you'd like.
