This cluster <17> tonight has now become quite comical, and brings to mind this buy/sell. This year's boondoggle in baseball eclipses all other similar episodes in any other sport in our illustrious history. I'm buying, considering our past in this particular sport.

2001 football was pretty bad. We went from expecting to compete in the west to a years-long meltdown of epic proportions that we still haven't fully recovered from.

I'll buy.

Here's a team that was in the CWS last year, now they not only go on to have a losing record for the first time since 1975, you have the HC legend trying to undermine the coaching search basically for his own selfish reasons and basically embarassing himself every week with something. Then you also have some of the players saying that they don't want to play for one of the candidates basically because he yells and tries to win. Then you have attendance dropping off, and the NCAA accusing us of practicing too much, which will surely be dropped if they watch us play.

Not to mention that you have said legend writing a 60 page manifesto to the NCAA, one of the ex-players coming to the First Pitch banquet and offending the crowd with jokes about the legend's unit, sexual orientation, and dropping the "d-word" a few times, which actually is pretty tame comsidering what he said on Letterman. I really regret not going as the comedic value would have very much been worth the drive and taking time off of work.

I mean, I halfway expect football to screw up. Would 1-11 be totally out of the realm of possibilty for football next year? I don't think it will happen, but we are talking MSU football here. Baseball, you kind of expect to have a little bit better fortune.

It easily eclipses all other episodes in our baseball history but the 2001 football team had higher pre-season expectations than 2008 baseball and fell completely flat and started a trend that we MAY just now be breaking out of. With the right coach, baseball won't take that long to get back up and going.

The 2001 football team left me shell shocked because I expected so much out of them. I think on some level many of us have been expecting a season like this out of Polk since his return because of his poor recruiting and outdated coaching strategy. All it took was a couple of key injuries to expose our lack of talent and depth. With the right coach, I think we are hosting a Super within 2 years.
