Fans put too much emphasis on hiring someone for the HC job that was previously associated with the program.

I'm saying soft buy. It would be nice to have an alum coaching, especially Showalter or Cohen. Cohen seems like he just flat out knows what it takes to win. And I think that Showalter's name could do alot of the recruiting for him(this seems to be the biggest question mark for him). But it comes down to you just have to get the best coach you can get, alumni or not.

Buy...that some of our fans do this. I for one don't care about a person's affiliation with MSU. We have enough tradition and reputation as a well supported program to attract people who should want to continue one tradition only, winning. If the new coach needs to hire someone to do the extra BS like camps and diamond girls, then so be it. I just want the person to be able to win. That's it. Win as much and as often as possible. The other traditions will take care of themselves if we are winning. For example, we were losing enough this season to make LFL appear as a shell of what it once was. Winning will change this problem.

Exactly... And you have to look no further than this past football season. If you put a winning product on the field, people will pay to see it. There are few things more detrimental to a program than fan apathy. Look at USM. .I'm not trying to take a shot at them here. They put a decent team on the field to be a C-USA team and still they can't pack a stadium. Hopefully we can hire a good coach and this never happens in Starkville.

always fighting the NCAA for our players, and sending out all those cards to X-players and players alike. It looks like that would have built up some good karma. Now maybe the new coach can think more about winning and ride the karma, and let someone else crusade for a while.

in general. Sure, there are some fans that have to have someone with connections.

But the opposite extreme is not hiring someone that has connections because they have connections.

Cohen would be a good candidate with or without his connections.
