Baton Rouge is great if you want a national championship but horrible if you want to raise a family.

I think if you are happy where you are, you should stay. He is paid well by them, so that's not an issue. And he also has a chance to possibly become the greatest baseball coach in their history rather than try to live up to a man who has won 5 NC's.

<span class="post-title">"Sell. He knew what he was turning down."

And what's that? A legit chance to win a NC?

but yeah. He knew it would be a lot easier to win one at LSU. And he knew all about LSU's history, tradition and fanbase. But he's got one of the top 20 jobs in the country where he is, and he obviously decided that all things considered he'd rather keep the job he has than take the LSU job.

Just because Mainieri turned it around doesn't mean Bianco would have. Is LSU's 08 team any better off than Ole Miss's 05 team at this point in the year? Did Ole Miss's 05 team not have a legit chance to win a national title?

Mainieri has done it with his guys. Hes run off almost all of Laval's players. Very few still contribute. I think Hollander and Bradford are the only holdovers who do. There is no way to know what Bianco would have done. To say he would be in the position Mainieri is in is nothing more than conjecture.

Bianco had a chance at a national title in 05. He lost two close games at home to the eventual national title winner. Who's to say he can't get that chance again.

It may be easier to win one at LSU, but to say going to LSU was his only legit chance at a national title is stupid. He can win one at Ole Miss.

</p>LSU team is better off this year than Ole Miss 05 team just because they will get a better draw, not to mention that they won the West outright and the SEC Tournament. And no, your 05 team didn't have a legit chance to win a NC. Purely my opinion, take it for what it's worth. But I say that because that was your first team to ever make it as far as a SR, much less Omaha. It is extremely difficult to win the CWS on your first try in 30+ years, I don't care how good your team is.

Like I said, my opinion, and let the pissing contest begin.

you make a good point that it would have been tougher for them than it was for Texas because they didn't have any prior CWS experience. Of course, this year's LSU team doesn't have any prior CWS experience either.</p>

He knew the program's potential, even though LSU was in the midst of a down period. I don't think he would be looking at it any differently now than he would have two years ago. For whatever reason, or reasons, he felt he had a better situation at UM. Or either he is extremely loyal. I think he is a talented enough coach to make a run at a NC, and not just getting to a third game of a super regional. I believe he will get to Omaha one day, but winning the whole thing takes a real alignment of the stars.

I don't think LSU will win it this year either. I don't think you necessarily have to have experience to win the CWS, but it is your greatest ally. And winning your first SR and NC in the same season would be unreal.

Bianco had a higher national seed in 05 than LSU this season. He can't control the fact that he had to play a team who underachieved a lot of the season and played to their potential at the end of the year as opposed to having a 2 or 3 seed come out of a regional. That could happen to him regardless of where he is the coach. His 05 team had a chance to win the national title, he just got a tough draw. Mainieri didn't. It could have just as easily been the other way around. Besides, at some point LSU is going to have to beat someone to win the national title. Whether it be in the super regional or in the national title series.
