Thursdays with Greg Byrne came early this week.

IT TAKES ALL OF US PULLING IN THE SAME DIRECTION

Our football season did not begin the way any of us would have liked. Understandably, our fans and supporters are disappointed. And we received a number of emails immediately after the game was over. Many were supportive, and some were critical.

We've made this statement before, but the only way we will achieve success here at Mississippi State is if everyone is pulling that rope in the same direction. Please know that we understand that what makes this business wonderful is the passion and enthusiasm that we all share for what we do. But that is also what makes Saturday night's result so challenging. We all have to rebound from that feeling and move forward. There are 11 games to go and the only way we will be able to have success is if we do it collectively.
Lest we forget, Saturday night was just as difficult on our student-athletes and coaches, who have been preparing for this 2008 season since January. They're not going to let last Saturday's results deter them...we can't either.
The email actually says more than this, but this is the only part anyone will care about. Like what he has to say or not, I am diggin' that this guy actually talks about the issues that matter to the fanbase. Kind of like Doc did before the Flower Children did him in.

I'm sure he's just hoping we don't draw less than 25,000 for the SE LA game. I'll do my part to help reach the under on that one.

Byrne is doing a good job he is probably reading every single last thing he has responded to the fans that has been posted on here

.....and directly responded to the pulse of the fans says something about him. If anything, it says he's not L.T.

I don't necessarily like the p.c. approach, but I completely understand that he simply can't say certain things publicly. He has to play it neutral to be fair to everyone. I'm cool with that, just as long as he takes care of business behind closed doors. In other words, leaning on Croom to earn that ridiculous raise he just got, and to force a change at OC(maybe DC too) in the off-season if this year turns out like crap.

Byrne is right that we all need to be pulling in the same direction. But I hope he understands that that can't happen as long as there are a great number of fans who are sick of wasting their money and time on a bad football program. He needs to understand that ONE winning season in the last 7 years isn't satisfactory enough to get everyone on the same page, not when we go right back to sucking the following year.

that read anything but pure, unadulterated, 100% wool. I'd be disappointed if he was NOT marketing MState athletics as anything except a life or death struggle between good and evil. I'd be disappointed if Byrne was NOT attempting to convince fans that they play a critical role in a team's success by buying season tickets, attending games religiously, and donating maximum disposable income to the cause. It's his job. It's why he's being paid. The fact that we have someone occupying Byrne's office that is willing to market is a breath of fresh air.

Practically, I'm all about following Byrne's lead as far as giving is concerned. We've got 23 games left to gather up funds for the buyout. Start giving.

"You guys are right, the season is shot. There's no need to drive to Starkville, spend money in town and on campus, give us good attendance numbers, buy up remaining tickets, etc. Croom is a failure and after going 8-5 last year I think I'll go ahead and can him one game into the 2008 season." He said exactly what he should have said. We should be appluading him for addressing the issue so quickly and not hiding from the fact that we had a disappointing game Saturday night. I don't know why anyone is worried about this. If Croom doesn't turn things around he will be canned by Byrne, it really is as simple as that. In the meantime, we can't have our AD spewing venom.

The cups are going to have an extra strong smell of Ruston this Saturday.

He's aware of everything and he controls everything. Those jumbotron holes weren't filled with water last week. Those were Greg Byrne's personal urinals. The jumbotron won't need cement pillars. The strength of Greg Byrne's right thumb and index finger will support the tron.

Will test cups for stinky smell at halftime.

Developing...

I may not be able to coach a 9th grade team, but even I know that a two QB system won't work at Dear ol' State.

Who needs to start pulling on the same rope is our coaching staff. That is a pi$$ poor way to start a football season. First of all we should have never been in that embarassing stadium playing a WAC school. Lee should have never seen the field, especially for the last drive of the game. Furthermore, Dixon only touched the ball 18 or 19 times.

Which rope are you pulling????

Not the one that looks like a bunch of clowns on the football field.
