Well I see Vegas has us as a 11.5 dawg which makes sense to me. We are gonna have to make shots because you’ll wax us on the boards and with 50/50 balls. Thing is, when we get cooking we can be dangerous and score in bunches. CC will have to limit turnovers and put up a crazy stat line to keep this thing close cuz we are out manned at every other position. My guess is we put up a good fight but can’t sustain it into the 4th quarter. My prediction is SC 86 Iowa 74 final. Hope I’m wrong.
We'll make CC run her *** off to get an open shot. She hasn't played against a defense like ours. She'll be gassed early. Hard to shoot threes when your legs are tired.
Agree. We'll try to deny her ball as much as possible, and keep pressure on her for 40 minutes. She's turnover prone at times, so I think that's the key. Force her into bad decisions and bad shots. Easier said than done, but I think we have the talent to do it.
I'm sure there is competition over who gets the initial Clark assignment, but we have the bodies to rotate defenders and run her hard and make her work for everything.
I believe it would have been a disparaging experience, more so with the passage of time. Our program bled out after our departure and playing those teams every year would not have made up for not being in the league.
She appears to be a one of a kind scoring machine. I am reminded of the game that Michael Jordan had in the Boston Garden in 1986 against the Celtics. He scored 63 and ran circles around Boston. But, the Celtics kept the rest of the Bulls in check and still won the game. I am expecting a similar approach and result from Coach Staley and the Lady Gamecocks in this game -- attempt to slow Clark down, but clamp down on the other four Iowa players.
True, but I would have rather played Tobacco Road than Auburn-Montgomery, Freedonia Stae, and CaL Poly-Pomona. Constant ACC media exposure without competing against it at all was disheartening.

But, this is a HORRIBLE matchup for us. We will get killed on the boards and we have not faced a Defensive team like SC. I want us to keep it close....but this could get VERY ugly and fast. At this point I am just thrilled we made it to the Final 4. Take care.

Props for the "USC" reference. You guys should be proud of your team and Clark. It's incredibly difficult to even make a final 4. I agree, it's a bad matchup...I'm expecting a 15-20 pt win. But that's why we play the games...you never know!!
Hard to argue against hyping up a player with these stats. She's got the Big Ten record for career triple doubles. She's an incredible player, she deserves the hype.
It will be interesting to see how Dawn plays her. I'm not sure you just shut her down. Could be you devote a lot of attention to her and she still goes for 25, but all that attention allows other players to score as well. I would just play her straight up. I think Iowa is going to have to score 80+ to win, just based off of what they give up on D. So go get your 30 CC...there's no way the rest of your team is getting 50.
That would definitely be my mindset. Let her get hers, but don't let anyone else go off.
Out of curiosity I checked her game log...she's been held below 20 three times this year: 18 (Maryland/L), 15 (Rutgers/W), and 19 (Iowa State/W). She's going to score, and she's likely going to score a lot. Make sure she's not efficient, and make sure her teammates don't go off.
I would go in with mindset to shut her down. I would pick her up at half court with the goal of keeping the ball out of her hands or to limit the amount of time with the ball in her hands. Has it worked for other teams? No, but they don't have the quality and quantity of athletes to run at her.
I don't know the balance if her team but a box in one or triangle in two may be in order.
Iowa definitely has other good players. They lead the nation in scoring for a reason, and it's not just Clark.
Agreed but their offense flows through Clark (she is also a good distributor of the rock). Take the ball out of her hands as much as possible.

Halftime. Down by 1. We have a really good team. But dang Caitlin Clark is as good as the hype. Different kind of player from our Boston, obviously. But her vision and quick passes are amazing (should have had at least two more assists if her teammate had made them). Combine that with speed cutting to the basket, or a killer three from WAY beyond the line, and she’s awesome. Would be so much fun to watch against someone else.
First time I have seen Clark play. WOW! Not sure who wins the game, hopefully we wear them down, but she is the best player I have seen us go up against this year. If she played for us we would be singing a different song!!!

We got we deserved tonight. We were outplayed and out coached. A couple of our seniors were basically non existent.

She can back it up. She honestly reminds me of a blend of Reggie Miller / Steph Curry / and the killer instinct of MJ and Kobe.
Hard to beat that and the refs. Some very questionable fouls out there tonight. On a positive note, Except for the few big time summer NASCAR races it's a short skip and a hop to football season. I can now officially tune out of sports for a few months.
Baseball: Couldn't care less. Would rather watch paint dry. It would be more exciting and over with faster.
We got some no calls our way also. We did a lot of banging on the offensive boards that they let go. Agree Boston had some touch fouls early but can't put this game on the refs. We were out-played and out-coached.
Clark from Iowa lived up to whatever hype you heard and then some tonight. At least for the last quarter of the game I saw.

She's the most incredible woman basketball player I've ever seen. Closest thing I've ever seen to MJ besides Kobe. Inside or outside, she don't care. She gonna eat you alive either way.
