Can anyone explain why today's Cardinals-Cubs game on TBS is blacked out in Memphis? I got a good guess from the DirecTV folks. "Maybe it's not a sellout."

Right. Morons.

I guess they consider Memphis in their hometeam market.

But again, why should that matter? It's not like people are sitting at home figuring out that the game is blacked out and then deciding to go buy tickets.

Not that you could get tickets anyway. The game should be a sell out.

you probably would have to buy them off of the street, but it really wouldn't be that hard.

And if you wanted to do it on the up and up, which I prefer to do, I think the Cardinals still had plenty on sale during the week.

They also have a ticket exchange, I believe, I've never used it though. You probably would do just as well to buy them from the team.

Maybe so, but I'll bet there weren't very many tickets, and that still doesn't explain a black out in a city that's 4 hours drive away. That'd be like blocking out Cubs games in St. Louis.

It's called TBS sucks.

The thing about the new Busch Stadium to is that it has some "standing room only" areas, so technically, they never really will ever sell out, even if they have 45,000-46,000 or however many actual seats that they have. Kind of like the LFL at Dudy-Noble. You stop when the fire marshall says stop.

We are (north mississippi/ west tennessee) considered to be in St. Louis's local market. If you have Directv like I do and you buy the Sports package you get roughly every game with the exception of the Sunday games. St. Louis's local Channel 5 gets all those games. To protect that channel from losing viewers they block out the national broadcast.
